The ideal candidate will be a specialist in the field, preferably with a strong background in teaching Art History with experience in teaching Drawing and Painting at the high school level. The candidate will have the passion and skills to create a learning environment that will offer a rigorous pre-professional arts training that challenges students in art historical investigation and discussion that informs their own personal artistic production and to achieve at high levels. Additionally, candidates should have working knowledge of mounting exhibitions, submitting work to exhibitions, writing artist statements, museum studies, and some critical art theory. Instructors at Pittsburgh CAPA will be required to differentiate instruction; design lesson and unit plans that properly assess student achievement and encourage artistic skill development and critical thinking. The ultimate goal is to help CAPA visual arts students improve their observational and creative capacity and nurture their passion for visual art. Candidates should be well versed in traditional and contemporary approaches to Art Historical Inquiry and art-making. The position will be 15 hours a week, in the afternoons, and does not include health care benefits.

Qualifications:
- Practicing artist with proven exhibition history
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Masters degree in Fine Arts preferred with strong Art History focus
- Teaching experience with diverse audiences - high school, studio, and/or community settings
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Collaborative and creative team player
- Collaborative work with community arts organizations

Essential Job Functions:
1. Prepare structured lessons that encourage and foster skill development, critical thinking, applications, and ethics.
2. Regularly assess student achievement, skill mastery and career development skills.
3. Knowledge of a Survey of Western and Non-Western Art Historical Cultures, Styles, Movements and Contexts
4. Knowledge of a variety of 2D media techniques and drawing mediums.
5. Assisting students with the development of analytical, technical skill and creative freedom.
6. Practical knowledge regarding mounting exhibitions, writing artist statements, submitting work for inclusion in exhibitions, public art, etc.
7. Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA Visual Art staff to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues.
