The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Colorado's Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) have established the Individualized Education Program (IEP) as the structure for planning and implementing goals and objectives for children with disabilities.
Infants and toddlers with disabilities (birth-2) and their families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C (Child Find). Children and youth (ages 3-21) receive special education and related services under IDEA Part B.
Garfield Re-2 School District uses a collaborative team process to help address students who struggle with in our schools as part of the District's RtI (Response to Instruction) process. This is a on-going team that reviews student data including; formal assessments, benchmark assessments, classroom performance data, parental information and other data to provide a comprehensive body of evidence. Interventions or extensions are formulated to meet the identified student need. The team continues to meet to progress monitor the interventions and determine next steps.
