UP Education Network currently operates four schools, UP Academy Charter School of Boston (grades 6-8), UP Academy Leonard Middle School (grades 6-8), UP Academy Charter School of Dorchester (grades K1-5), and UP Academy Oliver (grade 6). Across our network, we will serve more than 2500 students in Boston and Lawrence in fall 2014.

Role:
The Speech and Language Pathologist will provide speech and language services to students exhibiting a full range of communication disorders. The Speech and Language Pathologist will report to the Principal of UP Academy Boston, and work closely with Unlocking Potential's Director of Special Education.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and screen students to assess speech and language abilities and needs;
  • Conduct assessments in collaboration with others that help to identify students with communication disorders as well as to inform instruction and intervention;
  • Write evaluation reports including all speech/language assessments, goals and plans;
  • Meet federal and state mandates as well as local policies in performance of duties;
  • Determine and maintain programs based on goals set by IEP;
  • Determine needs of individual students and provides services one to one or in small groups as deemed appropriate;
  • Determine needs of individual students within the classroom setting and provide services within the classroom as deemed appropriate;
  • Serve as a consultant to classroom teachers as to how to better meet the communication needs of individual children within the group;
  • Work in conjunction with the classroom teacher to incorporate the speech/language program into the curriculum;
  • Work in conjunction with team to create IEPs for annual reviews and provides input for students who are involved with the three-year re-evaluation;
  • Maintain logs and ongoing assessments to evaluate student progress and completes progress reports;
  • Attends parent conferences;
  • Collaborate with the Principals and Leadership Teams in providing FAPE, LRE, and specialized instruction and services for students with disabilities, and differentiated instruction for all students;
  • Participate in special education meetings;
  • Participate in dispute resolution meetings, hearings and mediation settlement meetings as needed;
  • Manage Medicaid reimbursement activities; and
  • Perform other duties related to this job description as required by the school Principal or other immediate supervisor.


Qualifications:
  • Master's level degree in Speech Pathology;
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology (CCC-SLP);
  • Possession of MA DESE license in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders;
  • Experience with Special Education processes (IEP meetings, documentation, initial referrals);

  • Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.

Compensation:
