    Title: Special Education Coach

    Report to: Executive Director of Special Education

    Qualifications: *Master's degree from an accredited college/university
    *Current Kansas State Teaching License with certification
    endorsements in special education
    *5 years of experience in a special education classroom
    BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE
    The SPED Coach provides personalized and sustained professional development through consultation and formal coaching cycles with both special education and general education teachers with the goals of building capacity among those teachers to meet the needs of students through specially designed instruction, thus improving student learning.

    The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Know and ensure compliance of laws and regulations governing special education
    • Collaborate with school psychologists and related service providers that are assigned to the same building(s)
    • Collaborate with general education instructional coaches
    • Facilitate collaboration between special and general education teachers to ensure proper implementation of student IEPs
    • Facilitate coaching cycles with special education teachers
      • Collaborate with case managers to review IEP paperwork and provide feedback which leads to compliance of federal, state, and district standards
      • Facilitate gathering and analysis of student data in order to ensure specially designed instruction and least restrictive environment

    • Facilitate meetings among all special education staff in coach's assigned building(s)
    • Facilitate co-teaching teams in implementation of co-teaching strategies
    • Provide assistance with academic evaluations
    • Assist in creating a yearly master schedule of IEP and evaluation dates to ensure meetings are spread of the entire school year
    • Model and provide support during IEP meetings
    • Maintain documentation of coaching cycles and support services provided
    • Maintain confidentiality of the coach/teacher relationship and between buildings
    • Foster relationships with building principal(s)
    • Maintain accountability for finalized paperwork (scan, upload, make and provide needed copies to all team members)
    • Ensure all finalized paperwork is to the district office within ten school days
    • Assist with paraprofessional walk-thru and evaluation
    • Assist with transitions between building levels
    • Maintain a small caseload
    • Other duties as assigned

    • Promote the vision and mission of Special Education Department in USD 475
    • Engage in reflective practice
    • Maintain appropriate state license
    • Met regularly with special education coaching team
    • Communicate positive aspects of our schools and our program to the public in word and deed
    • Uphold board policies, department procedures and policies, school rules, and federal and state regulations including but not limited to:
      • Consolidated plan for federal programs
      • Acceptable use of technology
      • Sexual and racial harassment
      • Child abuse reporting
    Terms of Employment: Teacher Contract
    Salary Range: Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.
    Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of one time per
    year by SPED Administration
