Bilingual (Spanish) General Education Aide-Banting

Banting Elementary School in the School District of Waukesha is seeking a classroom assistant with a passion for growing learners, and themselves, for a position with our team. Our public school has strong ties to the community of Waukesha and our neighborhood as we support ALL learners in learning, growing and excelling every day.

Successful candidates will be able to understand what is taking place in a typical elementary school classroom, effectively making adjustments, modifications and adaptations that support the learner's inclusion in the regular education classroom. This role requires an individual to be both detail orientated as well as have the ability to connect to the big picture. A willingness to form relationships with all students and serve learners to empower them is a must. Flexible candidates are able to support learners in a variety of school and community settings and effectively communicate with all team members.

This bilingual (Spanish) assistant will assist the classroom teacher in meeting the needs of students in a bilingual and/or English classroom; may collaborate with classroom teacher in planning of activities; and will work with students as assigned in one on one and group settings in the form of re-teaching and explanations, incorporating the students' first language, and/or simplification and rephrasing of terms and concepts in accessible English to make content comprehensible.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Provide instructional assistance with students.

• Assist teacher and class with learning climate and routines.

• Supervise students during structured and unstructured times at the direction of the teacher.

• Assist in the general supervision of students on the campus and off campus.

• Assist classroom teachers in communicating with parents and staff.

• Professional attitude toward the privacy of students, staff, etc.

• Translation services.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Insure safety of students.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality relating to students and families.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Near native fluency in speaking and writing Spanish and English

• Required: Must meet the educational requirements for highly qualified*, transcripts, diploma or other proof of two year (48 credits) post secondary education post high school must be submitted with this application.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form in both English and Spanish.

• Ability to read and interpret documents, federal, state, and/or DPI regulations and handbooks.

• Exercising good judgment in dealings with students, parents, other staff and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

• Ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.

• Utilizing problem-solving techniques in correcting and changing student behavior.

• Using discretion in handling confidential information about students.

• Modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors which are expected of students.
