Springboard Teacher

Position purpose: To instruct scholars and partner with family members to close the reading achievement gap.

Who we're looking for:

An educator with content knowledge and experience in PreK-3rd grade literacy instruction.

A teacher who is open to feedback and is determined to improve their practice through participation in coaching and a Professional Learning Community.

An enthusiastic family partner who will foster meaningful collaboration with parents/caretakers through home visits and facilitating family workshops.

A data driven instructor who collects and uses student records to differentiate instruction and create individualized action plans.

Responsibilities:

Classroom instruction and student assessment

Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that motivates and supports students.

Deliver literacy instruction including guided reading, shared reading, read aloud, phonics, and writers workshop to a class of 15 scholars.

Assess scholars to identify beginning and instructional reading levels and to determine ending reading levels and growth.

Build partnerships with family members

Conduct family home visits to build relationships with parents/caretakers.

Assist in family orientation(s) the week prior to programming.

Facilitate weekly family workshops to equip families with reading tips to use at home.

Create individualized action plan interventions for each scholar to align classroom instruction with at-home practice.

Use communication folders to communicate daily with scholars' families.

Make positive calls to families throughout program.

Celebrate success at an end-of-programming Learning Bonus Celebration.

Participate in coaching and Professional Learning Community

Submit guided reading plans and student action plans for feedback and review from your Site Leader.

Take part in feedback and coaching conversations with your Site Leaders following classroom observation.

Participate and engage in weekly, one-hour coaching workshops with your Site Leader to review student data, plan interventions, and share best practices among your colleagues.

Participate and engage in weekly, one-hour family workshop preparation workshops with your Site Leader and fellow Teachers.

Seek input, resources, and advice from your Site Leader as needed.

Prepare for programming

Attend and engage in Springboard trainings: Teacher Orientation (optional for returning teachers), Family Engagement PD, Assessment and Data Driven Instruction PD, and Instructional Seminar.

Preparation Dates and hours:

April 23 4-5 p.m. (Orientation)

May (date tbd) 4:00 - 6:00 (Family Engagement PD)

May (date tbd) 4:00 - 6:00 (Assessment PD)

June 4th, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Instructional Seminar)

Compensation: Teachers are compensated (on an hourly basis) by OUSD, broken down as follows:

Instruction, planning and teacher work day (hourly per diem)

5 hours of programming (4.5 hrs daily for 25 days), including 180 minutes of daily instruction, planning time, and support with student supervision/transitions. This includes a teacher work day.

Coaching, Home Visits, Assessments ($34.67/hour):

5 hours for Ready Week (assessments, support w/family orientations)

15 hours for home visits

10 hours of professional learning community (one hour Mondays & Tuesdays for five weeks)

Pre-Program Professional development ($26.42/hour):

Up to 10 hours for professional development training prior to programming (April-June)

Per OEA contract Article 23.3.3.3, unit members will not be selected for more than two consecutive years. Should no qualified applicants apply, unit members may serve for more than two consecutive years.
