Purpose: To serve as an integral member of the classroom instructional team by working under the direct supervision of the teacher, reporting to Building Principals and, for program oversight, to District Administrators in literacy and numeracy, with the goal of providing individualized services to small groups of students that support the district's mission to educate all children to higher levels.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implement individual and small group intervention under the supervision of a certified teacher to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Administer, score and record achievements and diagnostic tests, under the direction of the teacher for individual students or groups of students.
• Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
• Assist the teacher in the handling, operation and care of equipment, used in the classroom, including media, and instructional materials.
• Check notebooks, correct papers and supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
• Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Assist the teacher in drill work, large group reading or storytelling.
• Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set and assigned by the teacher.ironment.
• Attend Professional Development programming as required by the Building Administrator and/or District Administrators.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the teacher and/or administrator.

• Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to work productively with children.

MINIMUM QUALITIFCATIONS:

• Must possess a high school diploma.
• Must meet Highly Qualified standards, which require an Associates Degree or 60 college credits OR successful completion of the Parapro Assessment Examination.
• Experience/training in working with children preferred.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time 30 hours per week with benefits
• This position includes membership in the Paraeducators Bargaining Unit.
