Description

The intervener is an integral part to the educational success of a student who is deaf/blind. The role of the intervener is that of a bridge for a child who is deaf/blind to experience the world around him/her self. Because many students with deaf/blindness require extensive and novel modification to education, services provided by an intervener are specially designed to meet the needs of the individual student. The intervener works collaboratively with service providers, consultants and parents. Interveners assist students with deaf/blindness to participate in educational activities. Interveners serve to support and create effective learning environments to meet the educational needs of the student. Interveners assist teachers to meet the communication, academic, social and emotional needs of the students with deaf/blindness in regular and special education environments.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalencyMinimum of 1 year experienceExperience with and/or desire to work with students with sensory impairmentsMust participate in ongoing training in the area of deaf blindness.Must be willing to prepare and successfully complete the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) with a minimum score of 2.5.Must obtaining first aid/CPR certification and keep certification current.

Terms of Employment
Full time, 188 days.

Salary

Intervener pay scale (Minimum $20.36 per hour)
