The Coordinator of District Crisis and Safety serves as the leader responsible for planning and implementing programs designed to reduce school violence and to engage students in appropriate behaviors and activities that promote character and facilitate academic growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the assignment and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
  1. Provide leadership for developing, planning, implementing, communicating, and overseeing a 24-hour comprehensive personal and physical security and school safety program for the District to ensure a safe and secure educational environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors;Direct and coordinate the development of an effective strategy to mitigate risk and maintain continuity of operations;Ensure staff are knowledgeable and trained in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining site-specific security processes, practices and policies throughout the District to respond to incidents and limit exposure and liability in all areas of risk;Research and deploy security solutions;Make available technical support and equipment to ensure best practice security measures and procedures;Conduct an annual review of District security strategies to ensure its appropriateness;Review all security documents, tools, equipment and procedures in place to ensure they are well-coordinated and effective;Establish a well-communicated investigative process related to enforcement of behaviorial rules, criminal incidents on school premises, organized disruptions of activity, and/or reported gang organization or activity;Serves as the primary liaison between the District and all local and regional law enforcement agencies on safety or emergency related matters;Anticipate potential crisis situations and plan, create and implement comprehensive crisis-response and crisis-intervention plans when needed;Ensure communication and understanding within sites and among sites;Ensure training and readiness of personnel and staff in specific response procedures;Programmatic oversight of the School Resource Officer and safety assistants;Facilitation of the district truancy initiative and supervision of the truancy officers;To manage the District Crisis Team during school-wide, district-wide, and/or community/regional/state-wide crises;To manage direct crisis intervention and post-intervention services to district faculty and staff, children, and their parents;To manage consultations to students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration before and after a crisis occurs;To manage direct service and training for safety and crisis intervention curriculum;To provide consultations, guidance, and support through his or her position on the District Incident Command System team to the designated building Incident Commander;To use the designated crisis intervention model to provide crisis intervention services;If crisis intervention services are required, to immediately stop whatever duties he or she is performing at school and immediately go to the site where crisis intervention services are being provided;To facilitate safety department involvement during district events;Maintain lines of communication with building and district administrators;Maintain lines of communication with various outside agencies that provide child and family services and make appropriate referrals as necessary;To facilitate and manage the periodic review of the District Crisis Plan;To facilitate and manage departmental standard operating procedures and the maintenance of department records;To manage the hiring and disciplinary actions of safety employees;To manage the crisis intervention and safety budgets and make recommendations to the Chief Operations Officer for the purchase of supplies and equipment;To supervise payroll and attendance for the Safety Assistants;To inform the Chief Operation Officer of events that occurs within the department and around the district; andOther duties as assigned.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Knowledge of school security and crisis procedures;Ability to enforce district rules;Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners;Ability to react to unique and emergency situations and ability to take responsibility and enact an appropriate course of action; andWorking knowledge of radios, radio maintenance, cameras, and swipe card readers.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
  1. High School diploma required; BA or BS degree preferred;Knowledge of rules, regulations, statutes, policies, current trends, and research in safety and security, bullying, sexual assault, suicide assessment, curriculum, instruction and assessment; andGood communication, organizational, computer and interpersonal skills required.

Physical Requirements:

This job assignment falls under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer or her/his designee.

Starting Salary:
$72,027.30
