The Opportunity

Lighthouse Community Charter School is looking for a High School Spanish Elective Teacher to instruct Spanish I, II, III and AP Spanish classes, grades and schedule to be determined later this spring. This important role will be filled by an individual who is relentlessly committed to ensuring that traditionally underserved students of color achieve our mission of completing college and securing the career of choice. Responsibilities
  • Teach Spanish I, II, Honors Spanish III for Native Speakers and AP Spanish. Class design is in alignment with the Spanish program scope, with attention to the national standards for teaching the language.
  • Serve as a Crew Leader (Advisor) for a small group of students and participate in grade-level team meetings and planning
  • Build relationships with students and foster a community of learners who collaborate, take risks, and persist.
  • Sound Pedagogy: Effectively implement purposeful curriculum, learner-driven instruction, and assessment methods that emphasize depth of understanding over breadth, integration of fieldwork and experts.
  • Professional Development: Attend and actively participate in professional development activities, team and staff meetings to improve teaching craft.
  • Collaborate: Actively collaborate with colleagues in the 9-12 instructional staff, school leaders, and the larger Lighthouse Community.
  • Establish Goals: Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive instruction.
  • Assessment: Consistently assess student progress to inform students and parents of progress. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of internal programs such as JumpRope (our standards-based grading system).
  • Support: Consistently implement support plans for all identified students to maximize success for all students.
  • Policies and Procedures: Administer Lighthouse's student policies and procedures (i.e. attendance, dress code, etc.).
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Teaching Credential required (World/Foreign Languages, Spanish, etc.)
  • At least two years of teaching experience preferred
  • B.A. B.S. or Master's Degree required
  • Experience with Google apps preferred
  • Spanish fluency required


Time Commitment

200-day work year for 11-month employees with 23 student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and families. All new instructional staff will report in late July 2019 (exact calendar TBD).

Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to maintain hours of 8:00 - 4:00 pm and 8:00-5:00 one day a week for Professional Development.

At Lighthouse Community Public Schools we take good care of our employees. We provide a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a competitive salary and generous health and retirement benefits (100% employee health coverage/50% for dependents; 8% employer-matching for retirement program; medical and dependent FSA).

Supervision This position reports to the Electives Manager.
