NATURE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Director of Student Support Services, the School Psychologist provides students the opportunity for maximum growth and development - socially, emotionally, intellectually, and personally.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Applies psychology as a body of knowledge on human behavior to the educational situation.

Evaluates and interprets intellectual, social and emotional development of referred students.

Diagnoses the antecedents of disabilities of referred students.

Interprets to parents, students, school personnel and other professionals the academic disabilities which handicap the child in his school environment.

Interprets to parents, students, school personnel and other professionals the personality problems which interfere with the child's overall attempts to develop a secure, well-integrated personality.

Consults with parents, students, and school personnel regarding factors which affect the student's learning and optimum adjustment to his social and educational environment involving prevention as well as rehabilitation.

Makes recommendations to school personnel regarding curriculum planning and programming for children with significant adjustment problems in both general and special education.

Attends case conference on placement of individual students.

Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies as appropriate.

Consults with authorities of the juvenile court as appropriate.

Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings.

Participates in in-service training programs.

Conducts appropriate research.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.

Completes all other duties as assigned by the Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work closely and cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators, colleagues, and parents/visitors.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree or higher required with the ability to hold the appropriate credentials to qualify for School Psychologist Certification in Virginia.

START DATE:
SALARY / STIPEND: Consistent with the 2019-2020 DPS Testing and Therapeutic Services Personnel Salary Schedule/depending on experience and advanced degrees. Excellent benefits package.
