The School Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the provision of health services to appraise, protect and promote the health of every student enrolled in public, parochial, and private schools in the Pittsburgh School District.

Salary :
School Nurse Practitioner Salary Schedule (Starting Salary - $43, 557 for candidates holding a bachelor's degree and $45, 838 for candidates holding a master's degree)

Work Year: 10 Months
Work Day: 8 hours

Endorsements : School Nurse PK-12

Qualifications :
- PA School Nurse certification.

- RN license.

- BA degree in Nursing and MA degree in Nursing.

- Nurse Practitioner certificate; in process of obtaining the certificate; or will agree to obtain the Nurse Practitioner within the specific timeframe.

Essential Job Functions :
1. Provides a health questionnaire and conducts a student/parent interview, initiates, performs and assesses screening tests including: height and weight measurements, vision test, audiometric test, tuberculin test, color vision test, scoliosis screening.

2. Performs developmental evaluations, complete physical examinations, reviews the teacher's observation form (kindergarten) and teacher conference when indicated.

3. Offers health counseling to parents and students.

4. Provides individual health education by discussing age appropriate growth and development with the student as well as teaching anatomy and bodily functions during the physical examination.

5. Teaches wellness and health maintenance.

6. Refers to school and community resources by assessing and arranging appropriate management and referrals for children with health problems who require further evaluation.

7. Prevents and/or controls communicable diseases.

8. Manages illness and medical emergencies.

9. Provide nursing servies to meet the special needs of the students.

10. Manages the school environment by identifying and reporting health and safety hazards and modifying student's school environment to accommodate handicaps or special needs.

11. Performs record keeping and clerical functions such as maintaining a comprehensive health record on each student, schedule students for mandated services, reports all services rendered, send formsand notices to parents, record results of exams, tests, health room visits, emergencies on student records, reports student immunization information to the state health department, sends and receives referrals and order supplies.

12. Other duties as assigned and needed by the Supervisor.
