The Reading Specialist will provide strategies for teaching and supporting students in the literacy skills needed to learn to read, read to learn, and comprehend. This will be done by administering targeted literacy interventions to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.

Salary:
Salary Schedule For Teachers Hired On Or After July 1, 2010 (starting at $47, 858 per year)

Qualifications:
- Valid PA Certification as Reading Specialist K-12 required?.

- Evidence of a demonstrated track record of effective teaching.

- Past record of student learning and growth.

- Deep instructional expertise and knowledge of content area.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Coordinate and facilitate the school's literacy intervention program.

2. Administer targeted literacy interventions to individual and small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources.

3. Collaborate with teachers individually to identify the literacy needs of students, to set learning goals and targets, and to problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students in literacy.

4. Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff.

5. Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.

6. Assist students using software and materials related to literacy programs.

7. Meet regularly with classroom teacher(s) to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student's needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.

8. Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content, especially literacy.

9. Maintain and submit accurate and up-to-date management records of all students' progress.

10. Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by supervisor.
