Summer Academies Head Residential Advisor - Spanish

POSITION LOCATION : Vermont

Located at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers middle and high school students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators in an intensive four week immersion environment.

Head Residential Advisors (RAs) work closely with the Dorm Head(s) for their particular Academy and other Academy staff, helping to organize and supervise the residential program while ensuring that Academy policies are upheld. Head RAs live in the student residence halls, provide leadership and coaching to the RA staff, supervise students, and help to establish a cohesive academic/residential experience. Head RAs will also have a living group of middle or high school students and are responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, and are vital to coaching and mentoring students during informal learning times.

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from local airport and train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

As the Summer Academy Head Residential Advisor, YOU WILL . . .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individualswith disabilities to perform the essential duties.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff
  • Live in the residence halls and supervise a living group of approximately 12 middle or high school students
  • Speak only the target language when in the presence of students
  • Mentor and coach students in language, assisting readily with stressful realities of the language immersion environment

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

  • Assist with planning and implementing the daily morning assembly and conducting nightly group meetings by actively promoting lively and interactive participation
  • Complete weekly student evaluation forms
  • Assist with evening and co-curricular programming, including student interest clubs
  • Assist with planning and implementing the activities program and all other Academy specific events and activities with positive spirit and interactions
  • Attend and constructively participate in daily staff meetings

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current College Junior or Senior or recent graduate
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school students, preferably in a residential setting
  • College RA experience is desirable
  • Native or near native mastery of the target language and culture

  • Possesses excellent communication skills, engages well with others and is articulate and outgoing
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency
