The Opportunity:

Mastery Charter Schools is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Senior Director of Strategy and Planning (DSP) reporting directly to CEO Scott Gordon. The DSP is a partner to the CEO in developing and executing organizational strategy and ensuring senior planning and decision making systems are effective. The DSP's central responsibility is to manage the senior leadership team planning processes and ensure key strategic executive initiatives are formulated, reviewed and executed by central office staff. The DSP is directly responsible for ensuring our 5-year plan (Plan 2022) is fully developed and executed. Mastery's planning processes are designed to ensure key stakeholders provide input into strategic initiatives, strategic initiatives are informed by data, decisions are executed with fidelity, and team dynamics are healthy and effective. The DSP is also responsible for ensuring school leaders and staff are informed and engaged on a regular basis. Finally, the DSP takes on special projects of critical strategic and tactical importance.

Responsibilities:

Manage Executive Team Organizational Monitoring & Planning Process

Manage biweekly meeting of Executive Team, including regular review of key performance indicators, strategic initiatives, and major issues as they arise.

Manage quarterly school performance reviews.

Share out key decisions and work with senior leaders to ensure decisions are executed.

Manage Executive Team Strategic Planning

Manage quarterly strategic retreats and ensure Executive Team is effectively addressing long-term strategic issues and trends.

Ensure Plan 2022 (our 5-year strategic plan) is fully developed and executed.

Manage Internal Communications Plan

Work with CEO to ensure staff and school leaders are regularly informed of developments in the network and important decisions

Support Board Governance

Work with CEO to ensure our Philadelphia and Camden boards are informed and authentically engaged in key decisions.

Supervise Central Office Staff

Supervise Executive Assistant and ensure central office is high functioning and healthy.

Special Projects

The DSP will lead network special projects.

Qualifications

Strategic: can think and manage in terms of systems

Analytical: comfortable analyzing data to inform decisions

Project Manager: can lead a team and ensure things get done and done well

Organized: keeps many balls in the air

Relationship builder: able to build relationships with a multiple stakeholders including network support leaders, principals, and teachers; self-aware with the ability to reflect and adapt to diverse environments

Strong writing skills: can write quickly and comfortably for a variety of audiences

Passionate: driven to build a high performing school district that delivers for kids

High Expectations: demands quality in his/her work and throughout the organization

Smart: quick learner who is insatiable curious and able to figure it out

Humor: the work is hard; it will come in handy

Requirements

Minimum 7 years of senior project management experience

Experience in consulting or large organization environment is desirable

Proven track record of project management and coordination in a large organization setting

Proven relationship management experience

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Experience in the education field a plus
