JOB TITLE:
SUMMER SESSION CTE INSTRUCTOR- ENVIRONMENTAL TEACHING AND OUTDOOR RECREATION LEADERSHIP

SUMMARY:
The CTE instructor is expected to prepare high school youth for entry into the field of Environmental and Outdoor Recreation Leadership or transfer on to apprenticeship or Community/Technical College training programs. The teacher is expected to provide leadership and strong instructional skills to ensure students have a solid understanding of basic environmental and outdoor recreation responsibilities and operations.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:
Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. The plan's promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. The strategic plan is centered on Our Promise. It includes five big goals for Highline students, supported by Our Foundation. * Equity. We will increase student success by supporting their social-emotional and academic needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Teach and follow the learning objectives of the environmental and outdoor recreation program. * Provide students with an overview of the environmental and outdoor recreation field, including current practices. * Integrate technology and science into daily instruction along with providing opportunities to apply science and math concepts to real life situations based on the approved curriculum. * Provide personal and employment counseling for students. * Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance and complete PSSC reports in a timely manner. * Maintain a safe environment for students. Other Functions * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student-learning objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have or be able to qualify for, Washington State Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate (CTE) with endorsement(s) in Natural Resources and/or Careers in Education, Hospitality, and Tourism. Alternative Certification through industry experience and attendance in CTE program after hired. Work Based Learning endorsement. Three years teaching experience in classroom or informal educational program



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in relevant field Experience in outdoor recreation leadership Experience working with high school age youth

JOB DESCRIPTION:
CTE INSTRUCTOR - ENVIRONMENTAL TEACHING AND OUTDOOR RECREATION LEADERSHIP The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to carry a 50 pound backpack while cross country skiing 5+ miles and work in all types of outside weather conditions.
