Position Purpose:

This position will work with students in grades 9-12 to develop individual plans for college and career success after high school. CCR advocates will work directly with families and students to discuss test scores, course selection, future plans, grades, attitudes, soft skills, scholarships, financial aid and other aspects helping students prepare for life after high school. CCR Advocate will provide students with experiences to explore post secondary institutions and opportunities in the workplace.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in an educational field preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to interact with staff and to meet demands from several people.

Length of Contract : Classified 9-month contract; 8 hours/day.

Performance Responsibilities:

They shall include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Meets with all students each semester to review and revise career plans and personal plan of study.
  2. Explains vocational assessments and resources to students and families for Washburn Tech.
  3. Has a detailed understanding of Kansas Career Pipeline and assists parents and students.
  4. Conducts conferences as per district guidelines with assigned students and families in grades 9-12 as needed.
  5. Has a strong working knowledge of Power School.
  6. Plans, organizes, recruits, and participates in College and Career field experiences and opportunities.
  7. Works with counselors to plan, administer, and oversee the testing of students.
  8. Assists students in maintaining and organizing an e-portfolio related to their progress toward becoming college and career ready.
  9. Communicates regularly with counselors, administrators and other staff as it pertains to the advising of students.
  10. Directs students and families to other staff and resources as necessary.
  11. Participates in training and professional development as mutually agreed upon with administration.
  12. Works with counselors to communicate information regarding financial aid and scholarships.
  13. Advocate for students in seeking available community resources to finance educational career experiences.
  14. Collaborates on college and career options with administrators, staff, parents and students as needed.


Terms of Employment:

9 months at a 1.0 FTE; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board policy on evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
