ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

West Jefferson Elementary is home to over 350 students in grades Pre-K-5. We look for ways to individualize instruction for every student to ensure academic success. We believe in teaching students to be socially competent through our rich affective needs programs. We have invested in additional mental health support for our students. We address the needs of the whole child every day! We have a highly active PTA that supports students, teachers and the whole school community. Many students are involved in Student Leadership, Bobcats on Broadway, Girls on the Run, Science Fair, Reflections and a variety of other activities throughout the year. Salary Plan, Grade, Step: JCE - Professional - 185 days, GR1, 1
Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $40,989 - $57,654

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Responsible for the instruction of preschool learners. The teacher will utilize evidence-based data, best practices and frequent monitoring to influence instruction. The teacher will lead the team in ensuring District initiatives are implemented and that licensing regulations are followed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Demonstrate effective support of children's language/reading, math, and social and emotional development, utilizing P-3 Best Developmental Core Practices.

Demonstrate an understanding of creating and maintaining environments that are conducive to child learning (e.g., well- managed classrooms that promote young children's executive functioning, including self-regulation of emotions and behavior).

Establish a safe climate for learning through positive classroom management techniques, utilizing routines and structures to model and communicate behavioral expectations.

Complete observations to evaluate student progress using district approved assessments. Document all observations and assessments in district approved system. Demonstrate increased effectiveness in responding to individual children's development and learning needs.

Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, instructional coach, classroom volunteers and all other school employees. Demonstrating common and cohesive instructional practices that are developmentally appropriate and differentiated to meet the needs of all children. Demonstrating a shared language about student learning. Demonstrating knowledge of instructional practices across the full PreK-3rd continuum, not just the age/grade-level for which responsible.

Using observational tools to observe each other's classroom practices and effectiveness, to identify areas of disconnect, and to provide peer-to-peer feedback.

Perceive feedback received (from principals, teachers, instructional coaches, Early Learning Office and others) on instructional effectiveness to be constructive and supportive; use feedback received to improve practice.

Facilitate communication among students, team members (including other teachers, special education team, curriculum coach and principal) and parents.

Participate in continuous improvement; cooperate in implementation of school-wide and department-wide goals.

Demonstrate leadership in identifying, delivering, and evaluating timely content for own professional development. Stay current on licensing regulations, and ensure staff and student files are up-to-date as per district and CDHS requirements.

Perform administrative duties as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License. Must meet early childhood teacher certification prior to beginning position.

EXPERIENCE Minimum one year successful teaching experience, preferably in preschool. Experience with curriculum, instruction and assessment preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EQUIPMENT Excellent communication skills and positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrated expertise in specific content area and best practices for all students ranging in abilities from special needs to accelerated learners. Highly determined and driven to succeed.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. May also involve above-average levels of activity intermittently that cannot always be anticipated. Ability to meet physical needs of students.
