E ssential Functions and Objectives:

Provide visionary leadership to management and influence future growth opportunities to achieve long-term performance goals & objectives (5 to 10 years). Responsible for executing the overall business plan and acting as a champion for strategic change across departments and community.

R esponsible for helping achieve the Denver Plan Goal of Great Schools in Every Neighborhood by supporting and supervising all district-managed schools. As a member of the senior leadership team, design and implement the strategic plan for school improvement. Supervise and coach the leaders of all regional networks of schools and work closely with the Deputy Superintendent of Academics to ensure that school leaders are supported in strategies to ensure every child succeeds.

- Strategic direction: define and create district vision, culture and strategic roadmap, including developing policies, acting as a thought leader, and model continuous improvement.

- Budget planning: develop, manage and monitor budgets that support strategic goals, including: forecasting, linking financial decisions, setting annual costs, and providing recommendations to ensure fiscal integrity.

- Stakeholder relations: establish and cultivate effective working relationships with key district staff, governmental. Agencies, school districts, community groups and other resources in support of district initiatives and to maximize visibility.

- Corporate governance: ensure compliance with state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and regulations, maintain and direct activities related to the District's safety and security efforts.

- People effectiveness: develop strategies and framework to support continuous learning. Ultimately responsible for creating organizational capacities, building a diverse culture and promoting a high performing district.

- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, and in alignment with the Board of Education, help set the vision and strategy for the organization as a whole.

- Lead the drive to continually improve the quality of our schools, eliminate opportunity gaps and ensure that we have Great Schools in Every Neighborhood.

- In conjunction with the Deputy Superintendent for Schools and Sr. Deputy Superintendent for Equity, explores, develops and implements new initiatives to increase college and career readiness at every grade.

- Lead district efforts to be data driven in school improvement, continuously assessing how to increase performance using both leading and lagging indicators of student academic and whole child success and teacher and leader development.

- Lead and manage a team of education professionals who work closely with our schools to support them in driving toward excellence in the areas of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, School Culture-Building, School Leadership, College Access & Success.

- Build a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and continuous improvement, supporting the ongoing learning and development of team member.

- Act as chief liaison for schools to key constituencies, including district leadership, external partners, grant-funded partners such as University of Virginia PLE, Wallace Foundation SEAL program and others, and community partners, including elected officials, non-profit leaders and the DCTA.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- 10+ years of experience and leadership in large urban school systems required; 15+ years preferred.

- 7+ years of management experience required.

- Thorough industry knowledge.

- Identifies key issues and relationships relevant to achieving long-range goals or vision.

- Ability to effectively lead an organization.

- Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills.

- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

- Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.

- Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.

- Ability to develop, plan, and implement long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.

- Encourages diversity and mutual respect among team members and demonstrates compassion and sensitivity.

- Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and ability to collaboratively with diverse people toward common goals.

- Results oriented with a hands on approach; Ability to manage both high-level processes and monitor completion of the day to day work.

- Lifelong learner; is current with research on best practices in school improvement.

Education Requirements:

- Master's Degree is required
