Under the direction of the building principal, works to help each pupil develop comprehensive mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have a collegiate or postgraduate professional license or be eligible for a provisional license in mathematics.
  2. Teaching experience in a high school or its equivalency and Master’s Degree preferred.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
  2. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level of the students.
  3. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation in accordance with division, state and federal guidelines.
  4. Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and within the content of these goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects with the ability to communicate these objectives effectively to students.
  5. Establishes high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
  6. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the student or students involved.
  7. Meets and plans regularly with content or grade level teams to develop unit and lesson plans, identifies and discusses approaches to teaching and learning, reviews and disaggregates data, and collectively work to improve the school.
  8. Identifies special needs and seeks the assistance of division specialists.
  9. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports to administrators and parents.
  10. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and policy.
  11. Assists in designing, upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and School Board Policy.
  12. Actively participates in faculty and/or department meetings.
  13. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  14. Provides for professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students. The educator also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the various learning styles and models instruction to address student needs. Designs assessments that provide accurate and usable data to support on-going student achievement.  Utilizes current modes of technology to support curriculum and models effective use of a variety of manipulatives/models to support student engagement and comprehension. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community members.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in a school setting. Performs professional work providing instruction for the assigned subject. Work requires prolonged standing and physical movement as it relates jpb-specific duties. Light lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required. Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

SUPERVISOR:  Principal            JOB CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month contract (200 days)

BACKGROUND SCREENING:  The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check (fingerprinting).
