  • POSITION INFORMATION:
    Supervisor: Dr. Bruce Copeland, Coordinator of School Social Work Employment Period: 11 Months Employment Status: Part-Time Start Date: Immediately Hiring Range: Full-time: $44,109--$58,926
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The School Social Worker's roles include providing evidence-based educational, behavioral, and mental health services; promoting a school climate and culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence; and maximize access to school-based and community-based resources.

    ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
    • Provides in-home psychosocial assessments.
    • Serves on multidisciplinary team(s) to address needs of students with or without disabilities.

    CONSULTATION
    • Contributes special knowledge of human behavior and relationships to staff.
    • Consults with parents regarding ways they can help their child become effective in school.

    INTERVENTION
    • Provides crisis intervention services.
    • Provides direct services to students and parents.

    COORDINATION/LIAISON
    • Serves as liaison between school, families and community agencies.

    PLANNING/PREPARATION
    • Assists the school in planning programs that prevent, reduce or alleviate situations which interfere with the learning process of students.

    ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT
    • Organizes time, resources, and services to meet workload demands.
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and punctual records.

    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DEVELOPMENT
    • Abides by NASW's Professional Code of Ethics.


    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Pupil Personnel Services License with an endorsement in School Social Work (must have master's degree in social work with at least 6 graduate semester hours in education).
    • Ability to analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding needs for services.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, school personnel and resource persons in the community, and mediate differences between family members and school personnel.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage time.
    • Provide own transportation and maintain a valid driver's license.
