POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coordinator for Special Education is responsible for special education and related services in assigned schools and/or programs. He/she will implement systems of leadership, support, and guidance for school and district personnel so that educational programs for students with disabilities are implemented in compliance with IDEA and related federal and state laws, rules and regulation. This position reports to the Executive Director for Special Education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Requirements: EDUCATION: Master?s degree is required.
Experience as a lead teacher or administrator in a school, school district, or related location
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Must hold a valid Georgia Professional Certification in a Level 5 or higher. Certification in Educational Leadership or the appropriate certification that allows for supervisory roles over special education programs
WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 years successful experience teaching or providing services (i.e., Speech Therapy, School Psychology) to students with disabilities
Compensation: SALARY GRADE: 133
SALARY RANGE: $75, 798 - $104, 223
WORK DAYS: 252

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement systems of training, coaching and support so that students with disabilities are provided research- based, specially-designed instruction that meets the unique needs of the student.
- Build strong partnerships with parents, school leaders, instructional personnel, and district personnel in order to build support for students with disabilities.
- Partner with school personnel to assist students with disabilities to access the state-approved general curriculum and to the maximum extent appropriate, be educated with their non-disabled peers.
- Implement systems of training, support and monitoring to ensure that students with disabilities are included appropriately in state-mandated
- Provides training, guidance, support, and monitoring for school personnel to assist schools in implementing research-based, specially-designed instruction for students with disabilities in the least restrictive
- Provides training, guidance, support and monitoring for school personnel to assist schools in implementing special education and related services in compliance with the IDEA and related federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
- Partners with school and district personnel to assist in staffing schools so that students with disabilities are provided services by appropriately trained, credentialed, and effective
- Provides effective communication and support to parents of students with disabilities, and other stakeholders, to enhance the educational program provided for students with disabilities.
- Partners with school personnel to ensure that activities of daily operations are conducted effectively and efficiently to support the education of students with disabilities
- Organizational Improvement: Support and promote the vision and mission of the
- Assist in the implementation of the district's strategic
- Work in coordination with other Curriculum and Instruction team members to implement a comprehensive Division communication
- Participate as a member of the School Improvement and Leadership Development team in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures across departments and schools
- Supervise assigned personnel, provide assistance, conduct performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment
- Coordinate, plan, implement and evaluate the professional development of assigned
- Model and require the use of management practices that promote high-performance, ethical behavior, collegiality, teamwork, and fairness.
- Work collaboratively within Curriculum and Instruction to deploy fiscally responsible decision-making.
- Assist with the development and review of proposals for outside funding for special
