ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Mount View Youth Services Center Detained School provides educational services from a dedicated staff to approximately 275 students yearly in grades 6-12. Located on the Mount View Youth Services Center campus, operated by the Division of Youth Services, in unincorporated Southeastern Jefferson County, we offer students detained by Colorado courts the opportunity to continue with their personal education. Offering core academics, special education, life skills, and a seminar class, we orient project-based and project-solution coursework focused on engaging the student. We strive to provide a quality education while providing opportunities to create, develop, and improve critical mental and social skills for positive personal growth and to achieve their fullest potential.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Mount View Detention Center School is located within the Mount View Youth Services Center (MVYSC). The MVYSC is a secure, co-ed multi-purpose facility operated by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Youth Corrections (DYC). The population consists of 5th - 12th grade students who have had contact with the criminal justice system. Classrooms are separated by gender, are multi-grade, and are multi-subject.

Min-Mid Annual Salary Range: $39,922.80 - $56,155.10

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of specified course content. Responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that results in students achieving academic success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Have the desire to work with a diverse student population.

- Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.

- Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.

- Establishes appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and
techniques.

- Prepare effective lessons and conducts teaching and instructional activities, utilizing educational technology,
materials, and other learning aids.

- Partner with special education staff to implement student's IEP's, ALP's and 504's.

- Set deadlines for student work.

- Grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.

- Communicate with parents as needed.

- Willingness to be actively involved in staff development work, training, school innovation and program
evaluation.

- Collaborate with other instructional and state staff.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE Experience with curriculum, assessment, staff development, and online learning. Experience with effective use of technology with teachers and/or students supporting educational technology initiatives. Awareness, understanding, and application of a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Previous experience or plans/documentation demonstrating your knowledge about culturally responsive teaching that relates to achievement issues for all students. Demonstrated success using technology to ensure technologically literate students.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or certificate with the necessary endorsements for Highly Qualified in Secondary Math.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Must possess demonstrated skills in classroom and online implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, demonstrated success in working with learners, and experience with leading online learning. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of standard District technology, ability to effectively and efficiently use for a variety of purposes, and demonstrated success in using technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability in interpreting assessment data collected from a variety of sources. Willingness to be a contributing member of the school.
