Serve as the lead for all matters relating to school partnership and student supports:

  • Coordinate partnerships with organizations including: The Home for Little Wanderers, Strong Women Strong Girls, Horizons National Summer Camp, Horizons tutoring, Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy, HERNSUP tutoring, HERN, and Cradles to Crayons.
  • Conduct whole class reviews where every student's strengths are considered in order to individually tailor services,
  • Facilitate individual student reviews and student support teams in order to problem solve around student academic, behavior and health concerns,
  • Assists in the implementation and development of behavior support plans,
  • Support crisis management, completes student check ins, facilitate social skills groups,
  • Coordinate family donations and homelessness resources,
  • Complete daily school duties such as support around arrival and dismissal routines and engagement in parent and family communication

  • Support teachers and support staff (including counseling/guidance interns if applicable), in grades K-5 with the implementation of inclusive practices with a particular focus on student behavior, social emotional learning and self-regulation (Zones of Regulation).
  • Work in full-collaboration with the PBIS Team to support the implementation of a multi-tiered system of support for students including setting clear and consistent expectations, teaching expected behaviors, providing reinforcement and accountability.
  • Work in full-collaboration with the Crisis Team to serve as the lead responder for students in crisis; develop crisis support/BIP plans as needed with team/teachers/support staff..
  • Oversee the use of the Alternative Learning Room to support student calming and de-escalation. Work directly with staff to support student re-entry, wrap-around services, etc
  • Facilitate parent meetings in collaboration with the principal, to support student reentry
  • Coordinate Lunch/Recess periods including the schedule, staff assignment, monitoring student behavior, reinforcing structures and routines and overseeing discipline; Work in collaboration with the Cafeteria Coordinator to coordinate food services
  • Coordinate school transportation including arrival and dismissal schedule, daily log, alternative transportation, bus support, communication with First Students and bus drivers. Implement late bus arrival/dismissal procedures, including student supervision, communication with families, communication with transportation, etc.
  • Work with principal to co-facilitate maintenance and repair with school facilities.
  • Work in collaboration with the Safety Team and Student Success Team to monitor BPS Attendance Policy, including ensuring teachers are following the policy, students are appropriately referred to SST and working with the Truancy Officer; case management of students w/ attendance issues
  • Actively participate in and support school-wide family events and activities designed to promote and support family engagement. Work with City Connects Coordinator to strategically engage community partners in areas of identified need.
  • Serve as a member of the Crisis Support Team and PBIS Team to ensure that structures and systems created to support a positive school climate are implemented collaboratively and all children receive the support they need to be successful.
  • Participate on the Student Success Team to review students referred for additional supports and participate in the problem-solving, consultation model.
  • Maintain respectful, culturally proficient communication with all families, particular families of children in crisis and/or requiring support; maintain respectful and supportive communication with faculty being coached and/or under supervision.
  • Respond to all family concerns professionally and in a timely manner (within 24 hours). Communicate to families regarding safety/serious behavioral issues or family emergencies by the end of the school day.
  • Facilitate/Coordinate well structured team meetings and/or actively contributing to leadership teams to support the vision and mission of the Bates School, particularly in regards to our inclusive climate.
  • Maintain strong, clear, timely and consistent communication with faculty at the Bates School, particularly when providing feedback on practice. Follow-through.
  • Support staff to ensure continuous growth through the planning and development of in-service professional development opportunities, linking staff to external resources and supports, modeling and providing specific, actionable feedback.
  • Commit to professional growth and development by actively participating in bi-monthly meetings with principal to reflect on practice, participating in external PD and learning from and with the faculty of the Bates School through whole-school PD, team membership, etc.
Qualifications Required:

• Associates/Bachelors degree with experience working with inner city youth in urban setting
• 3+ years of full-time work experience; 1-3 years experience preferably in an education or non-profit related organization
• Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the King's mission, core values and educational model
• Commitment to the success of all King students
• Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
• Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
• Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff,as needed
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Extensive knowledge of social media platforms/tools and emerging new media
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite
• Comfort and familiarity with student information databases (Aspen, SIS, etc)

This position is subject to the City of Boston Residency ordinance.

Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
