About UP Education Network
UP Education Network manages and operates five schools in Boston and Lawrence, MA. We serve 2,600 elementary and middle school students. UP is invited by local school districts to restart chronically underperforming district schools as UP Academies. Each UP Academy shares the same mission: to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential. In fall 2016, UP will launch its sixth turnaround school in Springfield, MA as a part of the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership.

Role:
The Coordinator of Families and Community will work to support the students and families of UP Academy Holland. The Coordinator of Families and Community will report directly to the Principal of UP Academy Holland. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast paced environment, can manage many competing priorities and constituents, and can work efficiently under deadlines.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Identify potential community partners, stakeholders, and community leaders in Lawrence;
  • Develop and sustain strong community partnerships for UP Academy Holland;
  • Proactively develop relationships with family members of UP Academy Holland students;
  • Track communication with students and families (i.e., home visits, phone calls etc.);
  • Support the Principal's community and political relations activities, including but not limited to preparation of materials to be presented to key external stakeholders;
  • Execute school-wide projects related to general operations, community relations and strategic planning;
  • Support general school launch activities throughout the course of the year;
  • Support the Principal in crisis management situations;
  • Perform other duties related to this job description as required by the Principal.

Qualifications:
  • A passionate belief in UP Education Network's mission, values, and educational model;
  • An eagerness to set ambitious, challenging, and tangible goals, and a relentless drive to achieve them;
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and a capacity to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public speaking skills;
  • A sense of humility in the face of success;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish highly preferred;
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred; and
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.

Compensation:
We offer a competitive compensation package and comprehensive health benefits.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time.
