Position Description
The Coach & Culture Specialist supports student achievement by working with faculty and students to create and sustain a positive school learning climate in each classroom and our entire school community.

Under the direction of the Head of School, the Coach will work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including faculty, parents and students around efforts to introduce and support the expanded use of restorative practices in our school. The Coach is responsible for designing and delivering training, technical assistance, and coaching in employing restorative practices within their work. The coach will also be responsible for the curation and dissemination of promising instructional practices that support our mission around academic excellence.

The Coach & Culture Specialist serves as an expert instructional coach and curricular resource within the school. The Coach & Culture Specialist supports teachers and administrators in designing and delivering instruction that is consistently ambitious and strengthens all students' ability to engage in content as thinkers and problem solvers. The Coach & Culture Specialist provides professional development and support to staff and administrators in the implementation of high leverage practices and standards, including training in instructional strategies that are effective with diverse learners.

The candidate selected for this role will collaborate closely with the Fenway Leadership Team and Teaching and Learning TEam and will report to the Head of School. The person will be responsible to perform all reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor.

  • Knowledge of research-based restorative justice effective practices and improving a strong school learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with students and families from a diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds to work towards a fully pluralistic school.

  • Drives student achievement by creating, supporting, and maintaining strong learning cultures in classrooms and the entire school.
  • Builds in schoolwide routines and expectations that support a strong learning culture with restorative practices as a foundational value.
  • Builds programs that support and sustain students' cultural and linguistic identities and their identities as intellectuals, leaders, and activists.
  • Designs and provides professional learning opportunities for staff that are relevant to standards, increases teachers' knowledge of effective skill development strategies and instruction, that are research-based, and that build the capacity of administrators and teachers to transform learning experiences in order to drive ambitious student achievement objectives.
  • Observes classroom instruction to evaluate the implementation of curricula and instruction including content, materials, pedagogy, pace and standards, student performance and curricular effectiveness.
Achieve all students practicing academic excellence
  • Promotes college and career readiness through coaching of faculty and direct building culture support.
  • Reflects upon the needs of the learning culture and students to organize and implement a systems of discipline.
Goals apply to all students
  • Collaborates with the SWD & ELL teams to design and implement innovative programming that addresses the needs of students with IEPS and English learners.
  • Promotes differentiated instruction & practices and the use of a variety of strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
Value our students as individuals
  • Works with teacher teams to use evidence regularly to maximize adult efforts to ensure student learning.
  • Coordinates with our SST team to make sure each student has the social-emotional support they need.
Develop self-esteem & leadership skills with our students
  • Identifies staffing needs and assists with the recruitment and selection of outstanding, high-capacity instructional staff.
  • Serves as member of school's leadership team, ensuring efficient and effective school operations.
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in education and/or other related discipline.
  • MA DESE licensure
  • ESL License or SEI Endorsement.
  • Minimum of 7 years professional experience, including 2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • MA DESE Feedback and Evaluation experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, program implementation and evaluation, child growth and development Gr. 9-12, effective instructional strategies, and learning assessment and diagnosis.
  • Experience in designing and leading professional development.
  • Strong and tested ability to develop excellent teams and participate effectively on teams.
  • Ability to prioritize, balance, and complete complex projects in the face of competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the Fenway mission and educational model.
  • Growth mindset, positive and optimistic attitude, and sense of humor.

Working Conditions
Fenway is a "Pilot School." Teachers selected to work at Fenway are members of the Boston Teachers Union (BTU), but agree to work under the terms of a site-based agreement, rather than the BPS/BTU Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Terms:
BTU, Group I, plus additional compensation equal to 5% of the individual's annual base salary.
