The Park City School District, Park City Utah, is seeking a highly qualified Chief Academic Officer.  The district wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on July 1, 2019.

Purpose Statement for the Chief Academic Officer Position

 

 

  • Organizes, administers, coordinates K-12 Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
  • Under general supervision of the Superintendent to develop, implement, direct, supervise, and coordinate the curriculum and instruction programs for the School District, and to develop and implement the district-wide professional development programs, consistent with the district goals as well as applicable laws.

The Qualifications
 

The candidate must have the background, skills and abilities essential for excellence. The district has developed the following functions for the position:

  • Essential job duties include the following, and other duties as assigned.
  • Acts as a resource person to other central administrative staff in the development and implementation of administrative practices, policies and procedures for the District.
  • Responsible for K-12 Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment: Ensures there is a PK-12 continuum of teaching and learning through a cohesive, consistent and articulated district written curriculum. Assures the implementation of the curriculum at the building and classroom level with support of the Deputy Superintendent, program coordinators, and building administrators.
  • Plans, oversees and administers the following special programs and others as needed:  K-12 Curriculum and Instruction, Gifted and Talented, Human Sexuality, Educator Instructional Support, Title I, Title IIA, Title III, Title VII, At Risk, Experimental Development Programs, Accelerated Learning, Reading Initiative, Endorsement Programs, Comprehensive Professional Learning, Instructional Coaching, Dual Immersion, School Community Councils, District Assessment, CTE, and Principal Leadership Oversight.
  • Plans, oversees and administers the Title IIA Teaching program and other professional learning programs for teachers, administrators, counselors, Education Support Professionals (ESP)
  • Develops and maintains Gifted & Talented, K-3 Reading, High Access, Early Childhood and Dual Language Immersion; and budgets.
  • Prepares grant proposals to procure funding to further district goals and objectives.
  • Researches various teaching and program models and approaches as directed by the superintendent or assistant superintendent.
  • Trains coaches, teacher leaders, and trainers, and teaches in-service sessions, classes, courses and workshops. 
  • Plans and oversees mentoring activities.  
  • Organizes and supervises procedures to assess student performance and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Participates in school and district level community council processes.
  • Chairs the district’s novel committee.
  • Directs the selection and adoption of instructional materials, textbooks, and media and software materials for the District.  
  • As directed by the superintendent or CEO, participates in state and district level coordination, evaluation, review and development committees.
  • Prepares district, state and federal reports.
  • Makes presentations for board, principals, faculties and the community.
  • Provides support to teacher leader over National Board Certification.
  • Assists school leadership in developing and implementing school-level professional development plans.
  • Plans, coordinates and directs the professional development program and activities in the District as well as continuing education for certified staff, promoting a focus on student learning and professional growth.
  • Supports school-level academic and technology coaches.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the district’s Utah Grants
  • Provides assistance to schools in the development and implementation of school improvement plans.
  • Provides assistance to schools engaging in the accreditation processes.
  • Conducts on-site visits and provides technical assistance to schools.
  • Maintains an inclusive and cohesive process to develop, implement and monitor dynamic, long-range and systematic technology goals to achieve the plan.
  • Fosters and nurtures a culture of responsible risk-taking and advocate policies promoting continuous innovation with technology.
  • Uses data in making leadership decisions.
  • Advocates on the state and national levels for policies, programs and funding opportunities that support implementation of the district technology plan.
  • Implements, along with the Superintendent, the comprehensive plan of interventions to address proficiency gap among ELL and Hispanic students. 
  • Hold responsibility for all Federal funds Title I, IIA, III, and VII (ESSA)

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises program specialists, school administrators and teachers on special assignment, along with the administrative assistant.   Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with District policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities including: training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

 

Education Requirement

  • Master’s Degree and four to ten years of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Successful experience as a School Principal preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Utah Administrative/Supervisory License.
