  • Position: Elementary Spanish Teacher

    Location: Fremont International Academy (PK-2)

    Summary: Fremont International Academy will be opening in August 2019 as the first non-boundary magnet within Battle Creek Public Schools, focusing on world cultures and international mindedness through the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. As we prepare for Year 1, we are searching for educators who are are lifelong learners and maintain a constant growth mindset, both for their individual practice as well as the students they serve. We are searching for an elementary Spanish teacher who will deliver Spanish language and culture instruction to every student across grades PK through 2nd.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Michigan Department of Education Certification in K-5 All Subjects (ZG) Endorsement
    • Demonstrated excellence as an elementary classroom teacher.
    • Ability to work effectively with colleagues.
    • Ability to work with a diverse student population.


    Preferred Characteristics:
    • Expertise in both spoken and written Spanish, as well as knowledge regarding the history, music, art and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
    • A high level of commitment to working within a culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse environment.
    • Relationship builder.
    • High expectations of self and a commitment to continuous improvement of professional practice.
    • High expectations of students coupled with the ability to inspire and support students as they meet those expectations.
    • A defined moral purpose that drives daily efforts on behalf of students.
    • Adaptability.
    • Familiarity with or willingness to learn and apply behavioral and academic RTI models.
    • A willingness to fully participate in and contribute to a professional learning community.
    • A positive attitude.
    • A high level of perseverance and professional will.
    • A strong belief in the individual worth of all students.
    • A desire to teach life lessons that go beyond the textbook and classroom walls.
    • A readiness to develop and apply a variety of best practices in the classroom, especially in the areas of instruction and classroom management.
    • A proficiency with writing unit plans, pacing guides and daily lesson plans across multiple subjects
    • A willingness to collaborate with peers across all facets of the work, providing constructive feedback and raising expectations for all students and staff


    Start Date: August 12th, 2019 (with required workshops on June 12th, June 13th and June 14th)

    Salary Range: BCEA negotiated salary schedule
