Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is the third largest school district in the United States, serving over 360,000 students at 600+ schools. Cooperative Education (Coop) and the Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) programs within Chicago Public Schools allow students to apply real world application to the skills and knowledge they are learning in school. CPFTA is the only citywide program, at the high school level, that provides training for students interested in careers in public safety, law enforcement, criminal justice, and fire science. The 2-year program was developed jointly by the Chicago Public Schools' Department of Early College and Career Education (ECCE), Chicago Police Department (CPD), the Chicago Fire Department (CFD), and the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC). Coop is a capstone course for students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs allowing them to work at partner organizations, while earning credit, to advance their skills and certification training.

The Coop and Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy (CPFTA) Program Coordinator has the overall responsibility of managing the Cooperative Education and CPFTA programs within the Chicago Public Schools - Department of Early College and Career Education. The Program Coordinator will lead implementation, maintenance, expansion and evaluation of all aspects of both programs. He or she will also be directly responsible for student recruitment, programming and enrollment.

The Coop and CPFTA Program Coordinator w ill be responsible for the following:

  • Program Management

  • Maintain and enforce program policies

  • Manage daily program operations

  • Initiate and coordinate events and activities

  • Ensure programs have adequate supplies and equipment

  • Develop and administer budget(s) to meet program needs and grant expectations

  • Coordinate recruitment and scheduling of students

  • Log daily attendance, collect and enter student grades

  • Collect and disseminate ECCE Departmental information to all stakeholders

  • Ensure ECCE KPIs are understood and accomplished

  • Troubleshoot concerns

  • Coordinate annual CPFTA graduation and awards ceremony

  • Facilitate articulation agreements and student awareness of postsecondary options

  • Collaborate with Early College and Career Education, as well as all other CPS departments, in order to align program activities to the district's major initiatives and strategies



  • Classroom Management and Support

  • Conduct classroom/site visits and non-evaluative observations of program teachers

  • Coordinate implementation of all curriculum and designated assessments

  • Monitor students and implement disciplinary action as needed. Collaborate with school and CTE leadership to resolve emergency issues.

  • Manage classrooms when teachers are absent

  • Collect, report, analyze student data



  • Outreach and Recruitment

  • Develop and implement recruitment plan

  • Create marketing materials to support promotion of programs

  • Recruit students to participate in citywide programs

  • Lead student admissions process

  • Coordinate information sessions for parents and students

  • Engage partner organizations to assist in outreach and recruitment as needed.



  • Partnership Development and Management

  • Develop new partnerships and coordinate outreach to new and existing partners to provide student training and placements

  • Collaborate with CTE Curriculum, Instruction, and WBL team in the development and execution of work-based learning opportunities for students.

  • Engage partners to garner resources and supports to positively impact program outcomes

  • Mange partnerships at the local, city and state level.



  • Performs any other activity or duty as required



QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels

  • Strong communication and technology skills (speaking, listening and writing; Microsoft office)

  • Experience working in or with educational institutions

  • A proven track record of success and a clear focus on results

  • Experience in project planning and management

  • Skills at engaging business and industry

  • An unyielding commitment to continuous improvement and ability to use multiple sources of data to inform short- and long-term decisions

  • Knowledge of coop policies and practices

  • Familiarity with programming and scheduling

  • Experience in marketing and recruitment

  • Familiarity with Law and Public Safety preferred, but not required.



Experience and Education Required:

  • ISBE COOP Teacher license required.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • 3+ years-experience working with coordination of programs and initiatives.

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience

  • Familiarity with educational systems and co-op policies and procedures, preferred.



Residency Requirement :

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
