  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of current generation of micro-computers; electronic methods and practices including safety precautions used in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.

    Must possess the skill to use and operate a variety of tools and electronic testing/diagnostic equipment; quickly identify, diagnose, and effect repairs to electronic equipment and systems; prepare accurate work estimate and equipment specifications; communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; prepare accurate technical reports and correspondence; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

    Must possess the ability to research and develop new technologies, outside the course of normal duties, which advance the business and instructional goals of the KHSD; provide assistance to IST Support Technician I & II in the implementation of new and existing technologies through various methodologies, including, but not limited to: telephone support, remote administration, and on-site support; develop, implement, and administer training for all IST Technical personnel through group presentation, development of training manuals, and online collaboration tools; coordinate with District level IST personnel to ensure that District technology standards and strategic direction are understood and implemented at the site or sites to which the technician is assigned; perform highly skilled and specialized installations, upgrades, maintenance, and repair of PC hardware, software, and peripheral devices; install, upgrade and ensure proper usage of desktop PC software; includes, but is not limited to, desktop operating systems, AS/400 session emulation, email and groupware, virus protection, and desktop security software; install, maintains, and repair local area network servers; performs server hardware upgrades as necessary; ensures high availability of server resources for LAN PC users; install, maintain, upgrade, and repair computer network software; includes, but is not limited to, network operating systems, proxy/firewall software, system management software, disk backup software, virus protection software, terminal server, Internet and Intranet software, and electronic mail software; perform all network administration duties including server backups, user account setup and maintenance, network security, and performance monitoring; maintain site access to WAN resources; design, install, and repair LAN infrastructure, including switches, hubs, and other network hardware in accordance with District standards; install and terminate copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with District & industry standards; provide technical support for site staff on usage of approved software and hardware and conducts training on an individual or group basis as needed; advises site staff on the design, selection, and use of computer and network hardware, software, and peripheral equipment consistent with District standards and strategic direction; these duties may include an "expert in the field" position on the site Technology Committee program, maintain, and repair site PBX and other related telecommunications equipment including user stations and switchboard equipment; install cabling for new devices and maintains cabling plant cross connects and terminations; program, maintain, and repair site signal and intercommunication equipment, including bells, PA, scoreboards and controllers, and MATV/CCTV systems; maintain, repair, and/or contract repairs for a variety of audio/visual and miscellaneous electronic equipment, including VCRs, TVs, overhead projectors and video cameras; maintain and repair theater lighting and audio systems; prepare cost estimates for repairs; requisitions supplies and repair parts; coordinate the contracting of required repair services with outside repair shops/vendors ensuring the appropriate involvement of District IST & M&O personnel; prepare technical reports and correspondence; attend District technical meetings, attend District-provided training sessions, reads District IST communications to ensure continuing conformity with evolving District standards.

    EXPERIENCE: Two years experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of micro-computer systems and two years of experience in micro-computer network design, hardware, software, and cabling systems; one year of experience in all KHSD technologies. Any combination of training and/or experience that would provide the desired knowledge and skill may be acceptable. Experience with Microsoft Windows NT/Windows 2000 and BackOffice products highly desirable.

    EDUCATION: Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, preferably supplemented by job-related college level or technical school courses.

    MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CLASS "C" CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.

    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. MUST BE WILLING TO BE TRAINED BY THE DISTRICT IN THE SAFE HANDLING AND DISPOSAL OF ASBESTOS.

    DUTIES OF POSITION: An IST Support Technician III shall take on responsibilities of managing and mastering a broad and complex spectrum of network and software responsibilities at the site or District level and will, additionally, assume development responsibilities in researching and implementing cutting edge solutions in the service of District goals under the direction of central IST staff.

    STARTING SALARY: $5,632.33 (monthly)

    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)

    NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
