PURPOSE OF JOB: Understand and support the implementation of the Kansas City Public Schools policies and

Head Start Performance Standards related to early childhood development, health/mental health/ERSEA services and

family and community partnerships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.

1. Assess family and child needs for the purpose of establishing an action plan to remove barriers to child's

success in school

2. Develop partnership agreements with families to gain skills to improve their quality of life

3. Orients prospective participants for the purpose of establishing familiarity with program, services, and

required processes.

4. Follow up with families to determine if the quality and timeliness of services they received met the needs

identified. Ensure acquisition of a medical and dental home

5. Organize files and create reports by entering data into Child Plus then generating reports on assigned

caseloads in order to monitor outcomes and determine if Head Start Performance Standards are being met

6. Visit families and students in their homes as needed to support family access to community resources and

family outcomes

7. Support and encourage parent involvement in the classroom, parent committee and policy committee

meetings and parent training events

8. Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or

gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines

9. Reports suspected incidents to appropriate parties (e.g. physical, sexual and/or substance abuse,

contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining student's personal health and safety and adhering

to district policies

10. Recruit and enroll age and income eligible children throughout the school year maintaining a 10% waitlist

11. Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree or certificate in social work, human services, family services and counseling

• Data entry skills and verbal communication skills

• Knowledge of adult learning styles with strong interpersonal communication skills

• Demonstrates initiative with problem solving skills to complete tasks and assume responsibility without

prompting

• Must be able to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines

• Must be able to work cooperatively with families and remain calm during crisis situations and provide

resources to assist them

• Must be able to communicate well with parents and other professionals

• Must be able to maintain professional boundaries with families at all times

• Must be able to maintain punctuality and not have frequent absences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bilingual skills depending on the population being served

• (English/Spanish/Somali, Vietnamese, etc.)

This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, reach with hands and

or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to

adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of work year: 10.5 Months (7.5 hours per day/5 days per week)

KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS;
