Description

This is a full-time, regular contract position beginning in the fall of 2019. This position will be at Middleton High School and will involve teaching various choral offerings, as well as teaming with department colleagues to instruct other general music courses.

Qualifications:
• Valid Wisconsin teaching certificate in the subject area of employment (Choral Music, General Music)
• Ability to interact in a positive constructive manner with students, staff and public.
• Teaching diverse student population (racially, culturally, socioeconomically varied).
• Experience working with high school students.

Candidate Profile - Preferred Skills and Character Traits

The preferred candidate will possess experience as a choral director and assisting with school plays and musicals. Expertise with piano and guitar is also preferred, along with some familiarity with rock/pop music. Candidates should be able to collaborate with parent groups and the music booster club to meet the needs of the music department. Applicants should have both a passion for engaging with high school students in the process of artistic discovery as well as collaborating with coworkers and the larger community.

District and Community – Middleton is close to the rolling hills and farmlands of rural Wisconsin and is the fastest growing community in Dane County. In addition to being home to a number of manufacturing industries, the city welcomes a growing number of advanced technological industries. Middleton is only minutes from the University of WI – Madison campus, which offers a variety of cultural opportunities.

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District provides high-quality education for approximately 7,500 students in six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, a charter high school, a thriving 4K-Program and online school. A few recent highlights of the District include:

The District had six of its ten schools significantly exceed standards on the 2017-18 Wisconsin School Report Cards, and three other schools exceeded standards.

Five of the 10 schools ranked in the top 25 of their respective levels in the Niche school rankings released in 2019.

This past fall, more than 70 percent of voters approved a nearly $140 million referendum to build an elementary school, and rebuild, expand and remodel the high school. This includes all new space for the entire music department.
