  • QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, and punctuation, accepted sign language methods and techniques associated with teaching the deaf and hard of hearing, and basic problems and learning disabilities associated with the deaf and hard of hearing.

    Must possess the skill to accurately interpret classroom lectures, lesson plans, and films using accepted sign language methods and techniques; communicate effectively in oral and written form; maintain routine records and prepare reports; perform mathematical calculations accurately; operate computer; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

    Must possess a level 4.0 certification in one of the following:
    Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), Educational Sign Skills Evaluation (ESSE), or National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).

    No experience required although knowledge of sign language methods and techniques associated with teaching the deaf and hard of hearing, general clerical experience and work involving students is desirable. Completion of twelfth grade required; supplemented by college level courses is preferred. Two years of college highly desirable.

    CERTIFICATION OF DISTRICT PROFICIENCY IN THE AREAS OF BASIC READING, WRITING AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED. ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MAY BE SUBMITTED IN PLACE OF THE DISTRICT PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATE:
    • DIPLOMA FROM A PUBLIC CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL AFTER JANUARY 1981
    (G.E.D. does not fulfill the proficiency requirement)
    • PROOF OF SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE CBEST TEST
    • POSSESSION OF A VALID CALIFORNIA TEACHING CREDENTIAL

    DUTIES OF POSITION: Under general to limited supervision, perform specialized duties in interpreting classroom lectures, instructional materials, films, and general classroom instruction for aurally handicapped students. This job class works closely with and under the supervision of a certificated resource teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing and exercises responsibility for the aurally handicapped. The position requires a high degree of proficiency in the use of accepted sign language techniques to convey information to assigned students.

    STARTING SALARY: $2,343.63 (monthly)

    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin 8/15/2018)

    NUMBER OF HOURS: 6.5 (daily working hours 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
