PURPOSE OF JOB: to serve as a resource for students in need of math intervention services. The interventionist develops small group/individualized lesson plans and materials, conducts individualized/small group instruction, and assesses student performance and progress as a way to guide the intervention services provided. The Math Interventionist works collaboratively with teachers to implement a quality mathematics intervention program that is research-based and differentiated for student needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct instruction to students identified as eligible for math intervention in individual, and/or small group settings.
Conducts student assessments to provide targeted interventions.
Establishes clear objectives for all intervention support, and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
Regularly creates and conducts formal and informal assessments to monitor student needs, drive instruction, and provides data reports of student performance to required staff members.
Plans to meet student learning goals, choosing appropriate mathematics strategies, resources, manipulatives, and materials to differentiate instruction; developing appropriate sequencing of mathematics learning experiences; and allowing multiple ways to demonstrate knowledge and skill in mathematics.
Models mathematical thinking that guide students in examining their own thinking and mathematical practices.
Engages students in understanding and identifying quality work and provides them with effective feedback to improve their work in mathematics.
Uses real world problems in applying knowledge and practice and engages students in real world application of mathematics.
Recognizes when student misconceptions interfere with learning mathematics and creates learning progressions to correct these misconceptions.
Helps students persevere in using mathematics fluently, effectively, and meaningfully.
Creates learning environments in which individual differences are respected and valued.
Collaborates with families, school teachers and staff, and other professionals to promote student growth and development in mathematics.
Collaborates as a school team and with classroom teachers, giving feedback on mathematical practice, examining student mathematics work, analyzing data, and making decisions to improve student learning.
Participates in staff development focused on delivery of math instruction, intervention, and assessment. Assists staff members in learning various assessment techniques in mathematics.
Engages in professional learning to enhance his/her knowledge and skill in mathematics, contribute to the knowledge and skill of others, and work collaboratively to advance professional practice in mathematics.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold or be eligible for Missouri 5-9 Math and/or 9-12 Math Teacher Certification
Minimum of Three (3) years of secondary math teaching experience
Knowledge of the Missouri Learning Standards
Background experience and knowledge in the area of elementary math instruction
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Education with math education emphasis
Teaching experience in urban schools
Experience as a Resource Teacher
Experience with curriculum and assessment development
Leadership experience
