    TITLE: Senior Accountant
    SALARY RANGE: $31.06 hourly

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This employee performs advanced-level work in accounting transactions, budget preparation and administration, audits, financial reporting and related financial activities for the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) in the assigned area of responsibility that meet or exceed generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. This employee supervises the work of less experienced personnel and technical personnel as assigned. Must be able to utilize a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED :

    Maintain ledger information on assigned accounts.
    Check ledger amounts for accuracy, correcting inaccuracies.
    Reconcile account statements and balances.
    Log documents in and out as they flow through processing cycles.
    Receive, prepare, and fill-out documents and data entry forms for computer processing.
    Validate computer entries and printouts against input forms and submit instructions for
    correcting errors or making adjustments.
    Verify accuracy of financial documents, including vouchers and requisitions.
    Check reports, forms, and payments for accuracy, completeness, timeliness and
    conformance to legal and policy requirements.
    Check legality of expenditures and availability of funds.
    Verify accuracy of payroll entries.
    Prepare, type, word process and proofread a variety of documents, including general
    correspondence and reports.
    Respond to questions from other employees and assist those contacted in the course of duty.

    Perform complicated payroll calculations involving standard hours, overtime, sick time,
    other leave time.
    Calculate, understand and process all aspects of payroll.
    Perform standard bookkeeping, accounting and auditing duties.
    Complete required forms and statements.
    May assume duties of absent employee.
    Perform related duties as required or as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    • Generally accepted principles and practices in accounting, financial auditing, budget preparation and administration, financial forecasting, financial record keeping and reporting.
    • Basic mathematics, bookkeeping and statistics as applied to public school system accounting.
    • Pertinent business systems for revenue forecasting, investments, debt service, taxation, inventory, etc.
    • Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
    • Operation of computers and use of associated software applications in performance of job duties.
    • Preparation and interpretation of financial statements.
    • Standard English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation; standard business correspondence formats.
    • Ohio school law pertaining to the accounting process and the CPS accounting system, within 18 months of employment.
    ABILITY TO:
    • Apply generally accepted accounting principles to CPS accounting tasks.
    • Identify and correct errors in accounting records; examine and verify routine financial documents and reports.
    • Analyze and interpret accounting/financial information and systems.
    • Exercise independent judgment to devise solutions to accounting and auditing problems.
    • Prepare business correspondence; organize, analyze, interpret, evaluate and present reports.
    • Operate calculator and related office equipment, including a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.
    • Manage work tasks effectively; complete assignments within allotted time frames.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Work independently in absence of supervision.Type/word process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Monitor grant applications, expenditures and interpretations.
    • Maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
    • Operate a passenger vehicle.
    Skill to:
    Operate standard office equipment, including a PC and related software required in the performance of job activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Must have five years of successful professional accounting or auditing experience, plus a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field. Some position may require a State of Oho Treasurer's License.

    MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
    Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
    Must have a valid driver's license. This is a sensitive classification; therefore applicants for appointment must pass a security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.
