THE OPPORTUNITY:

Lighthouse Community Public Schools is seeking a progressive and experienced instructional leader for the 2019-2020 school year to actualize our innovative academic vision and instructional stances across our family of schools. The Director of Curriculum & Instruction at LCPS will be charged with curriculum and programmatic oversight and alignment across our family of schools K-12 in all core content areas. The ideal candidate will have a background in math and science teaching and/or curriculum design, though candidates without this background will still be considered. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will help to bring our LCPS instructional stances to life in our classrooms through designing and facilitating data-driven and equity-focused professional development for teachers and leaders. This person will be an expert in designing adult learning experiences, culturally responsive teaching practices, and purposeful and vertically aligned curriculum design that supports students to become independent learners. The DCI will work in close collaboration with a team of equity-minded and progressive instructional leaders committed to ensuring every child can achieve college and career readiness and become changemakers in their own lives and communities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND OUTCOMES

• Lead and support systems and processes for the selection, development, and curation of curricular resources in core content areas across K-12 so that all students have access to high-quality curriculum, with particular attention to needs of our most vulnerable student populations (English learners, students with disabilities, and African-American boys).
• Provide direct support to teachers and leaders in understanding and designing from core instructional resources, lead teams in process of revision and refinement of core resources.
• Lead and facilitate learning walks with CAO, Director of Talent/HR, and organizational leaders to assess the quality of teaching & learning and move instruction towards the actualization of LCPS instructional stances.
• May on occasion serve as an alternate observer and supervisor and/or coach of teachers in the LCPS teacher evaluation, growth, and development system.
• Support Culturally Responsive pedagogy across FOS including articulation of CRT stance and alignment of curriculum and instructional practices.
• Conduct curriculum audits and gather and utilize other sources of quantitative and qualitative data in conjunction with the Data & Assessment Team to monitor progress towards improved student and staff outcomes and assess the impact of shifts to curriculum and curricular resources, PD, and instructional practices on student and staff outcomes.
• Work with Director of Talent to support alignment of coaching practices across schools towards focal areas within LCPS instructional vision.
• Design, facilitate and deliver professional development for leaders and teachers across the family of schools on LCPS Instructional Stances and EL Core Practices, including yearly summer curriculum institutes for teachers.
• In collaboration with CAO and in consultation with LCPS ILT, design and oversee professional learning scope and sequence aligned to LCPS Strategic Plan, with emphasis on supporting teachers in developing learner-centered practice and support the development of all students to success on our graduate profile.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor and based on interest and skill.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Significant teaching and instructional leadership experience required (including at least 7-10 years of successful classroom teaching and instructional leadership, preferably including principal or AP experience),
• CA administrative credential or certificate of eligibility preferred; Master's in Education or related field preferred
• Deep knowledge culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Deep knowledge of CCSS and NGSS. Experience as a Math and/or science teacher/coach preferred.
• Deep knowledge of K-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices aligned to LCPS' instructional stances and EL Education Core Practices
• CA charter school experience, a plus
• EL Education network experience, a plus
• Spanish fluency, a plus

Time Commitment & Compensation

This is a 12-month, full-time salaried exempt position.

Supervision

This position reports to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO).

Compensation

This role is a full-time, exempt position (220 days).
