JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, World Languages

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, World Languages

DEFINITION : Provides assistance in the development, implementation, and revision of the BCPS World Languages curriculum and instructional program. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in Blueprint 2.0. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Assists with the revision, development, and alignment of the BCPS World Languages curriculum with the Maryland State Curriculum and national standards.

Assists the Office of World Languages team with the identification of curricular needs, the collection of data, and the provision of service and support for elementary, middle, and high schools.

Assists the World Languages team in monitoring curriculum development, implementation, and assessment practices related to the World Languages curricula (including field test curricula and special programs (IB, Elementary Passport etc.).

Assists with the support of the new grade 4 through grade 12 curriculum and provides training on its implementation in both face to face and virtual formats.

Supports the collaboration with other offices for the delivery of countywide and school-based World Language professional development.

Provides support to teachers and department chairs in the implementation of the World Languages program and curriculum. Assists teachers in adapting and tiering curricular components to meet the needs of a diverse student population and build a proficiency-focused classroom.

Assists with the curation of authentic resources, development of a teacher resource toolkit and the development of proficiency-based tasks, demonstration lessons, and assessments to support the use of those resources.

Researches current best practices and successful local and national practices especially in the areas of blended learning, proficiency assessment and constructive pedagogy.

Serves as webmaster for the World Languages website, and assists with the creation of podcasts, videos, newsletters, etc. related to best practices as a part of a network of support for teachers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus three years of successful teaching experience. Master's degree preferred.
Experience in developing curriculum and designing and implementing professional development is required. Proficiency in French language, or French/Spanish, is required.

Licenses and Certificates :
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate with an endorsement in a world language required. Possession of Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate preferred. Endorsement in Spanish is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of second language acquisition, proficiency-based instruction, and the characteristics associated with Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced learners.
Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices in world languages.
Knowledge of learner centered instruction and the blended learning environment.
Technology competency. Knowledge of and skill in the use of multi-media platforms for podcasting, World Languages related social media, video casting and online learning platforms for teacher and student use.
Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communications skills.
Demonstration of strong leadership and human relations skills and ability to develop professional partnerships.
Demonstration of strong presentational skills.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class involves work performed in an office and classroom environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional physical activities. This position involves extensive travel throughout Baltimore County, meeting with school staff, developing and presenting informational sessions for all stakeholders and observing or teaching classes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Work may include evenings and weekends.

FLSA: Exempt

Eligible for membership in the Maryland State Retirement System.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
