Position at IDEA Public Schools

Role Mission: The Vice President of Auxiliary Services manages the IDEA experience beyond the classroom, from the moment a student sets foot in our schools until a student walks the stage at graduation. The VP of Auxiliary Services works to minimize (or eliminate) operational obstacles that could prevent teachers and school leaders from focusing on instruction.

The VP of Auxiliary Services is responsible for achieving operational excellence at each of the 97 IDEA sch ools, with a specific emphasis o n the following areas: child nutrition, transportation, health services and ancillary support staff (monitors). Specifically, the VP of Auxiliary Services is responsible for overseeing a $70+ m illion budget, and the success of more than 1000 team members throughout the network.

Accountabilities:

1. Ensures top performers occupy every seat across all a uxiliary functional areas (85% Auxiliary Staff Retention Rate)
  • Establishes hiring practices to attract top performers for every role in Auxiliary Services
  • Customizes onboarding practices to ensure each new team member is set up for success based on the unique responsibilities of their role
  • Develops and executes differentiated professional development for Auxiliary sta ff, to build technical capacity and leadership and management acumen


2. Achieves Operational and Financial Excellence of Transportation, Child Nutrition , and Health Services (i.e. in 2019 these goals translate to a $737 cost/rider, $5M CNP fund balance, 5% overtime cap, etc.)
  • Sets strategic and tactical leadership in the areas of Transportation, Child Nutri tion (CNP), and Health Services
  • Directly manages Transportation and CNP teams and indirectly manages Health Services at each campus to provide best-in-class customer service, while achieving operational eff iciency and financial targets
  • Responsible for finding new and innovative ways to increase the effectiveness of services while reducing costs, such as transforming IDEA health clinics through deliberate partnerships that result in the outsourcing of care for staff and families
  • Works with Regional Directors of Operations (RDOs) to mentor and support Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) on best practices, analysis , and tracking mechanisms to ensure effective monitoring of progress toward goals


3. Ensures 100% of schools are fully operational by the first day of school
  • Conducts the due diligence necessary to ensure that new regions and new schools open successfully, that services are tailored (to the extent possible) to the needs of the communitie s IDEA serves, and that costs are controlled ir respective of market conditions
  • Communicates expectations, oversees the development of professional development , and integrates IDEA culture in partnership with campus and regional leaders to ensure an excellent parent, student , and staff experience on the first day of school for all transportation, child nutrition , and health services staff members
  • Ensures that 100% positions are filled and new team members are on boarded, 100% of equipment is purchased, installed and operational, 100% of clinics are ready to serve students, 100% of cafeterias are prepared to serve breakfast and lunch, 100% of buses are ready to transport students safely and all training is high quality to ensure the success of each team member and a great experience for IDEA families


4. D ecreas es the population of students that are classified as over-weight or obese, while building healthy habits for staff and families (5% decrease in the number of kids above the 85% BMI th reshold, year over year)
  • Oversees the cross-functional strategic direction and implementation of Healthy Kids Here ( HKH ) , with a particular emphasis on improving the nutritional content of the food IDEA serves in its schools, increasing physical activity during the school day and after, as well as delivering comprehensive education programs to students and their families that drive a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Increases visibility of HKH progress by developing clear data-based metrics of success and the tracking mechanisms associated wit h them
  • Works with external partners to promote IDEA HKH efforts, to gather best p ractices and to solicit funding


5. 90% New Student Persistence
  • Engages with recruitment and enrollment teams to ensure that accurate, clear, and compelling information is communicated with all new families in alig nment with known leaver reasons
  • Analyzes, synthesizes , and communicates data trends on student leavers whose departure is attributed to school operations
  • Actively participates in strategy and execution to mitigate student attrition attributed to the overall parent experience with school operations (transportation, health services (medical), and child nutrition)

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manages Child Nutrition, Transportation, and Health Services departments and personnel


Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in applicable field preferred
  • Experience: 8+ years of full-time professional experience required; 3+ years of full-time people management required; experience managing managers strongly preferred
  • Experience in public education, especially charter schools preferred


Compensation:
  • Salaries for this role typically fall between $116,660 and $155,550 , commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
