    Title: Head Cheerleading Coach (JCHS)

    Qualifications: *Knowledge of the principles of effective teaching
    *Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport
    *Coaching experience is preferred
    *Cheer/Dance experience in high School and/or College preferred
    *Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    *Knowledge of district and state athletic guidelines
    *Good health & physical condition must be able to lift 50 pounds
    *Current TB skin test on file
    *CPR and First Aid Certification-Required
    *Bloodborne Pathogens Training-Required
    *Valid driver's license
    *AACCA Safety Certification preferred

    Reports To: Building/District Athletic Director
    Building Principal

    Supervises: Student Athletes and Assistant Coaches

    BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE
    The Head Coach is responsible for working with coaches at all levels to design, implement, maintain and provide successful supervision and delivery of JCHS cheerleading program.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Have thorough knowledge of district and Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) policies/guidelines.
    2. Assist principals and athletic directors in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, placing, evaluating and developing all assistant coaches in the program.
    3. Conduct themselves in a way by action and public communications that reflects confidence and respect for Geary County Schools USD 475.
    4. Emphasize academic excellence, set high standards, and continually monitor their student athlete's academic progress.
    5. Complete pre-season planning well in advance of starting date for the season.
    6. Organize and conduct effective meetings before, during, and after the season. These meetings can be used to prevent, solve, or manage problems of the group, present new coaching techniques, develop procedures, and/or address issues.
    7. Provide guidance and leadership to assistant coaches as to their expectations and assigned duties. Cooperate fully with maintenance staff, transportation staff, and others similarly involved in overall program.
    8. Provide a safe environment for practice and games adhering and following sound training principles.
    9. Use sound and acceptable teaching practices and coaching techniques.
    10. Run well-organized practice sessions utilizing staff to maximum potential.
    11. Adhere to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and rehabilitation. When injuries occur, follow a prescribed routine and maintain good communications with patient, trainer, doctor, and parents.
    12. Develop a sound system for uniform/equipment accountability, including inventory, repair, reconditioning, and replacement to include recordkeeping of cheer activity account.
    13. Complete all paperwork, reports, and other documents required by the athletic director/principal.
    14. Establish a dialogue with athletic director to maintain and purchase equipment, uniforms and request facilities repair services when needed.
    15. Responsible for the coaching, supervising and training of the cheerleaders.
    16. Responsible for the conduct of the cheerleaders at practice sessions and at all contests.
    17. Lead and direct the cheerleaders in such a way as to encourage good sportsmanship by example and leadership.
    18. See that the cheerleaders carry out all the duties set forth in the cheerleader handbook.
    19. Conduct a clinic for tryouts of cheerleaders in the spring of that year and arrange for all judges for the tryouts.
    20. Responsible for ordering awards and issuing awards to cheerleaders.
    21. Attends summer camp with cheerleaders.
    22. Assist in organizing pep rallies with dance team and/or spirit coordinators.
    23. Establish a schedule to ensure attendance and supervision at home varsity football and basketball games and out-of-town varsity football and basketball games as well as other activities/sporting events designated by the building athletic director.
    24. Attend meetings as required by athletic director/principal.
    25. Head Coaches are responsible for all other duties designated by the athletic director/principal.

    The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Salary Range: Extra Pay/Extra Duty Schedule
