DESCRIPTION:
The Instructional Coach will be responsible for increasing inclusive practices for delivering Tier 1 instruction by working with and supporting general and special education teachers and administration with the goal of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, managing difficult student behavior and building teacher capacity. He or she will be responsible for modeling/co-teaching lessons, providing teacher feedback about their instruction, classroom or individual behavior management strategies on a regular basis, and providing to them specific instructional techniques, strategies and approaches to enhance student success. The Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with the district's teaching and learning department to provide ongoing professional development to General Education Teachers, LBS Resource and Instructional Self-Contained teachers and administration about behavior management, executive functioning skills and academic strategies instruction. He or she will disaggregate and analyze a variety of data to plan collaboratively with teachers to meet the unique academics needs of each student.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide support to teachers in planning for instruction in academics, behavior management and executive functioning skills;Assist teachers in understanding how to support students' needs to maintain placement in the least restrictive environment;Design and facilitate professional development (including job embedded PD) to support the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum content resulting in improved instruction and increased overall student achievement;Collaborate with teachers to analyze assessment data and use this analysis to adjust instruction;Work with the district's MTSS Leadership Team to further its implementation;Help teachers identify student needs, plan for differentiated instruction, and ensure equitable learning outcomes;Consult with teachers and administrators as needed regarding students experiencing behavior and emotional challenges that impact functioning in the classroom;Assist in the development and monitoring of behavior interventions;Provide support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring;Assist teachers in matching appropriate assessment instruments to curriculum objectives;Collaborate with principals on an ongoing basis;Implement appropriate avenues of professional communication, dialogue and feedback to support continual improvement in and assessment of the outcomes of various curricular strategies as they relate to student achievement and school and district goals;Attend weekly meetings with the other Instructional Coaches;Attend Standing Committee and other District Committee meetings as appropriate;Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) with Behavior Specialist I endorsement OR School Support Personnel Endorsement of School Social Worker or PsychologistFive years of effective experience in school setting preferredExperienced and proficient in understanding behavior/classroom managementIn-depth knowledge of Tier 1 mathematics and language arts curriculum, primarily Workshop Reading and Writing modelStrong organizational and problem solving skillsAbility to establish and maintain effective organizational relationships and work collaboratively with school and district personnelKnowledge of adult learning characteristics and effective professional development designAbility to coordinate and facilitate professional development experiences for staff at the building and district levelsExperience and proficient in strategic instruction/executive functioning skillsExperience and proficient in analyzing data to coach colleaguesEffective verbal and written communication skills

TERM & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Full-time (1.0 FTE) position available during the 2019-20 school year. Will work the Teacher School Year + 10 additional days.
