Brief Description:
Employee is responsible for the safety and comfort of handicapped and elementary school children riding on a school bus. Completes related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Bus Driver and Bus Driver Foreman.
The Transportation Attendant (Substitute) will be working in the absence of a permanent Transportation Attendant.
Detailed Description:
Helps children on and off bus; Aids children in crossing street; Loads and unloads children in wheel chairs; Assists in keeping discipline on school bus; Places children in seat belts, making sure they are securely fastened; Discusses with the school Principals and parents problems which arise on bus; Assists children who become ill on bus; Makes and prepares reports.
Job Requirements:
Good knowledge of care and discipline of handicapped and children with special needs; Ability to deal patiently and effectively with children; Ability to deal courteously and effectively with school Principals and parents; Sincere interest in helping children who are handicapped and have special needs and in their safety; Physical strength and agility; Willingness to work in varying and adverse weather conditions; Patience and understanding; good physical condition.
Some experience in working with physically handicapped and/or children with special needs and completion of a standard high school course preferably supplemented by training in child behavior and traffic safety; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Details:
Education Requirement: High School Diploma or State high-school equivalency certificate
Salary: $11.50 per hour
Part-Time Hourly and Substitute Position
Works 5-8 hours per day
Substitute employees are not eligible for leave, pay for holidays not worked, or other fringe benefits. This appointment also doesn't entitle the employee to any special considerations for employment in a permanent position and service credit isn't earned.
Direct Deposit is expected as a condition of new hire employment.
Based on the settlement agreement reached in Administrator, Wage and Hour Division, U.S. Department of Labor v. Prince George's County Board of Education, OALJ Case No. 2011-LCA-00026, PGCPS is ineligible to sponsor foreign nationals for U.S. employment under any temporary or permanent visa program.
