QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.

  • The Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology shall issue licenses to such persons without examination, upon review of credentials and payment of an application fee in accordance with regulations of the Board for school speech­ language pathologists.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

Orientation: July 3, 2019

Program Dates: July 8 - August 2, 2019

Location: 2019 PROGRAM AT KENMORE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WASHINGTON-LEE HIGH SCHOOL, THE STRATFORD PROGRAM AND ABINGDON, BARRETT, CARLIN SPRINGS, HOFFMAN-BOSTON AND TAYLOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Internships in a variety of pathology settings.

  • Complete appropriate assessments and reports on students referred by the SSC for an evaluation.

  • Vary instructional techniques and service delivery to meet individual students needs emphasizing integration and the general education curriculum.

  • Participate in review of assessment information for referred students as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

  • Consult with building staff regarding instructional methods and student management.

  • Develop, implement and monitor IEP goals and objectives.

  • Work collaboratively with building staff to develop, implement, and monitor academic and behavioral intervention plans for students.

  • Maintain standard of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment for learning in different school settings.

  • Maintain current and appropriate student data records.

  • Participate in continuing professional education and research.

  • Support assistive technology assessments and services.

  • Provide assessment and treatment for multilingual and limited English proficient students who are disabled.

  • Participate in on-going teacher and parent conferences.

  • Supervise and plan with student teachers.

  • Serve as mentor teacher or supervisor to CFY speech-language pathologists.

  • Schedule students to accommodate their needs and educational program.

  • Provide information workshops as needed.

  • Screen all students new to Arlington Public Schools.

  • Familiarity with occupational therapy assessments appropriate for school age children and pertinent to the educational process.

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports of evaluations and progress.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.

  • Familiarity with a variety of service delivery models and occupational therapy treatment modalities.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in the above-mentioned area

  • Knowledge of best instructional practices


  • Ability to integrate technology


  • Experience in educational and instructional leadership

  • Dual endorsed preferred

  • Bilingual skills preferred

SALARY:
APS Employees providing services during the summer program who are APS employees during the regular school year will be paid their Non-VRS equivalant hourly rate. Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan.
