QUALIFICATIONS:

Appropriate PA teacher certification.

BA required in appropriate major study. Masters preferred but not required.

Must be able to organize a classroom to deliver the School District of Lancaster Science Education program.

Strong communication and motivational skills.

Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.

Ability to demonstrate and instruct a high level of manipulative skills.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

JOB GOAL: To ensure that each student will think critically, communicate effectively, understand cultural heritage and diversity, respect human dignity and be responsible to self and community and become a contributing member of society.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Create a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning through organization.

Teach and apply safety principles as part of all instruction.

Incorporate equipment and apparatus and the use of technology to deliver instruction.

Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge in science.

Maintain student records including all required paperwork.

Communicate regularly with parents and be available for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

Demonstrate appropriate planning and the use of a variety of instruction techniques and strategies.

Maintain and upgrade instructional content via task analysis and competency review.

Provide student with creative opportunities to carry out various experiments.

Attend staff meetings, and department meetings.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist in maintaining the storage of inventory and maintenance of departmental supplies, materials, and equipment.

Maintain all equipment and supplies used in classroom.

Participate in District and other science functions.

Participate on building and District science committees.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Board's request.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be determined according to Teacher Contract Evaluation.

Physical Demands:

Ability to react quickly to hazardous situations with agility.

Sitting 25% of the time, and 75% of the time moving, standing and walking.

Kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and squatting.

Ability to climb stairs.

Sensory Abilities:

Normal/Corrected vision.

Visual acuity to read correspondence, labels on jars of chemicals, directions and instruments.

Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Normal/Corrected hearing.

Normal sense of touch (temperatures).

Temperament:

Ability to react in a calm manner.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Must be flexible and demonstrate patience, and have a positive attitude, cooperative spirit, and sensitivity in relating to student, staff, parents, and community.

Mental Demands:

Ability to interpret detailed written and verbal communications.

Ability to perform basic math skills.

Frequently fast-paced; high-pressure situation.
