Description
Position at IDEA Public Schools

IDEA Public Schools :

At IDEA Public Schools, we believe in college for all and we are committed to ensuring that every student graduates from a four-year college.

IDEA was founded in 200 0 as a single school with 150 students in the Rio Grande Valley. When student interest exceeded the building capacity, IDEA co-founders , Tom Torkelson and JoAnn Gama, responded to the growing demand from families and launched what is now IDEA Public Schools. Under their leadership, we serve tens of thousands of students across Texas and Louisiana. By 2022, IDEA will be on track to serve 100,000 students in communities across the country with Greater Houston launching in 2020.

When you choose to work at IDEA, you aren't just an employee. You are a part of a t eam and f amily. You will work alongside colleagues who set and reach ambitious goals every day, are excited to continue to grow with IDEA, and work relentlessly to make college for all a reality.

About our region:

IDEA's expansion to Greater Houston was announced in December 2017 and we are preparing for an ambitious launch plan. Houston is considered the most diverse city in America , yet children of color and children living in poverty continue to lack access to the highest quality schools. As the fourth largest city in America with more than fifty independent public school districts and multiple public charter school operators, Houston is provides grown ups plenty of education career options, but boundaries and waitlists continue to keep children from having access to every high quality seat available. Nearly 250,000 children attend low performing schools across the Greater Houston metropolitan area and thousands continue to sit on school waitlists year after year.

Houston is a city where connections matter, but work ethic is the currency of influence. The city's reputation is based on economic opportunity and affordable living with a massive sprawl that exceeds the size of New Hampshire and the need for more great schools is ever present. IDEA - Greater Houston will be a part of the solving the problem to offer more children a choice-filled life through a transformational public education.

Fully cognizant of the need across the Greater Houston, IDEA Public Schools launched with a commitment to open our first four schools in 2020 and will follow with an ambitious growth plan to include twenty schools by 2025-26.

In the past two years in we have:
  • Secured a $ 10M gift from Laura and John Arnold
  • Hired our f ounding school leaders
  • Determined the locat ion of our first two campuses
