Role Mission:

IDEA Public Schools is driving towards operating nearly 200 schools by 2022, serving 100,000 students. IDEA's National Growth team is at the forefront of this effort, leading IDEA into new regions and ensuring that tens of thousands of children receive a best-in-class education that is often tragically lacking. IDEA's growth team w orks diligently to analyze market conditions across the nation in order to determine the viability for growth of IDEA Public Schools . The growth team works closely with IDEA's senior leadership and Board of Directors , ensuring that IDEA's growth is driven by the organization's mission and goals. The g rowth team has the privilege and responsibility of repres enting IDEA in communities, oftentimes serving as the first representatives for IDEA in communities in the months and years before a region is launched.

The role of director of national growth is to support IDEA regions in year -2 and -1 with the elements of a successful launch, including fundraising, community support-building, future campus site selection and acquisition, and resource creation. The director will lead this work prior to the hire of a regional Executive Director (ED), and will then work alongside the new ED as a partner to seamlessly transfer relationships and momentum. This individual will manage all new region site acquisition for 2021 and 2022 regions and will own growth responsibilities in at least one new region per year, starting with a 2022 growth region. This individual will also contribute to the success of other growth regions by supporting in areas of grant applications, data compilation and presentation, and external tours.

Accountabilities:

1. Secure pledges for two-thirds of start-up funds required for 2022 regions by June 30, 2020
  • In collaboration with VP of Growth, build and execute shared strategy for building support and a philanthropic base across all 2022 regions
  • Support VP of Growth in completing growth fundraising for 2021 region launch , with a goal of securing philanthropic commitments for 2/3rds of all start-up funds required
  • Apply for at least 3 grants related to IDEA's growth and expansion from sources not based in specific growth regions
  • Secure all necessary cash-in funding by June 30, 2020, based on year-over-year growth need s
  • Apply for and secure maximum startup funding from state, if applicable, by June 30, 2020


2 . Support the search, selection, and acquisition of campus sites for 2021 and 2022 launch regions
  • Work with local leaders, regional executive director, realtors, operations team, finance team, and project management team to determine six sites for first 3 la unching campuses in Tampa Bay (3 sites), 2022 region #1 (2 sites), and 2022 region #2 (2 sites),
  • Support all new region ED s through the process of searching, selecting, and successfully acquiring first 2 sites
  • Ensure all 2021 and 2022 launch regions have appropriate number of launching campuses under contract within the timeline that IDEA's operations team designates (may vary by region)
  • Determine if, when, and how non-traditional campus options warrant acquisition (leases, repurposed facilities, partnership facilities, etc.) by working with various IDEA teams such as operations, finance, and schools team to determi ne viability


3 . Manage all advancement and growth team responsibilities for one 2022 region
  • Following board approval of 2022 region(s), lead external efforts to build community support, drive funding and land opportunities towards IDEA, and position ED for a soft landing
  • Organize and execute at least 3 tours of existing IDEA schools to help ED build additional support for growth
  • Solidify budget and need by year with business office to drive fundraising ask
  • Develop top 10 prospects list, secure meetings with at least 7, and initial funding from at least 3
  • Develop at least 4 strong board prospects
  • Own and successfully transition to new executive director all external relationships related to building support in the region
  • Lead, and eventually support, all external meetings and presentations in region, serving as the eyes, ears, and voice of IDEA in region
  • Produce a SWAT analysis, or similar resource, to share with internal IDEA teams and new executive director for the region


4 . Produce external facing resources and grant applications to support new region growth for all regions in -2 and -1 years
  • Utilize all available data, including ESRI map data, Census data, state and local education outcome reports, and other resources to build the case for IDEA's work in the region
  • Build presentations for 2023+ growth decisions, based on direction from VP of growth
  • Build board presentations on growth progress (future, -2, -1 years)
  • Create tailor-made resources, including investor prospectuses, maps, PowerPoint presentations, and other products, to explain IDEA's work and needs, in order to build external support in growth regions
  • Organize and execute at least one in-region event in each -2 region in order to build support for launch
  • Write and submit at least 3 grants to win support, in order to hit regional fundraising goals, by June 30, 2020

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience: At least 6 years of professional experience, with at least two of those years in a business development or portfolio management role
  • K-12 Education experience a plus
  • Experience with real estate transactions a plus
  • Ability to travel 20% - 50%
