The summer marching band auxiliary coach or sectional instrumental instructor is to aid in the instruction of students during marching band pre-band camp and band camp in preparation for the marching band season. There may also be some extended time working with the marching band during the school year. The auxiliary coach or instrumental sectional instructor will serve as part of a team, to assist the band director, and assistant band director in the areas of preparation, instruction during rehearsals, and chaperoning of the auxiliary unit (i.e. the color guard, majorettes, drill team, dance team, etc.) at pre-band camp and band camp. The instrumental sectional instructor will lead provide small-group lessons and lead occasional sectionals.

Reports To: The Marching Band Director

Salary:
Two positions will be available per school site.

Fulltime: Auxiliary Coach/Instrumental Sectional Instructor shall be compensated 15 hours at the workshop rate for pre-band camp or post band camp and 40 hours at the workshop rate of 23.32 per hour.

Part-time: Auxiliary Coach/Instrumental Sectional Instructor shall be compensated up to 20 hours of work for either pre band camp or band camp at the workshop rate of $23.32.

Qualifications:
- Background in marching band sectional instruction or auxiliary performance or coaching required.

For Auxiliary Coach: Experience in the skills in at least one of the various sub groups of an auxiliary unit (e.g. the color guard, majorettes, drill team, dance team, etc.) required. Experience choreographing routines for the various auxiliary unit is required;

For Instrumental Sectional Instructor: Music education or performance required (e.g. woodwinds, brass and/or percussion). Must be able to support ongoing ensemble (or sectional) instruction through technical development.

- Experience working with school-aged students required; preferably at high school level.

- The successful applicant must meet all state and federal criminal background checks and clearances in order to work with students and other staff.

Essential Job Functions:
A strong candidate will be able to support the Marching Band through:

1. Choreograph, arrange, and implement auxiliary routine(s), both as an integrated part of the marching band, and as an independent unit during summer practices and camp.

2. Conducts sectional/ensemble rehearsals for the unit, in addition to the scheduled marching band rehearsals, during the summer months in preparation for the football season, parades, and other community events.

3. Assist in securing all necessary equipment and materials for camp (i.e. flag poles, flags, batons, instruments, etc.).

4. Chaperone, provide and assume responsibility for the supervision of students during rehearsal, breaks, downtime during pre- band camp and band camp, and performances both on and off campus.

5. Establish a rapport and communicate with parents of the auxiliary students and band students and help organize their efforts in support of the unit.

6. Instruct students in the proper care and maintenance of uniforms and equipment.

7. Be visible in the community and participate in community events.

8. Assist with the annual All-City Marching Band Festival and local festivals.

9. Secure permission slips from all band members for participation in in all off-campus events.

10. Enforce guidelines/rules of conduct for governing students' behavior for on and off-campus events.

11. Adhere to the direction from the Marching Band Director and Assistant Director.

Additional Job Information:
Employees that are on a leave of absence when school ends are not eligible for summer opportunities. Employees receiving an unsatisfactory rating during the preceding school year are not eligible for summer opportunities.
