Position Summary:
The primary function of a teacher is the instruction, care, and discipline of students. The teacher is the facilitator of learning for students in Grades K-5 and is responsible for teaching skills and concepts that will enable students to function more successfully in contemporary society at the following levels: physically, intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically.

Qualifications:
  • Possess proper certification and current licensure (Class "A") for the position as required by the Mississippi Department of Education in the field of instruction to which he/she is assignedHave met other qualifications and requirements as established by the school districtRequires an applicant who is Highly Qualified in Special EducationMust hold an edorsement in 221 or 211 and 153
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides learning experiences in subject matter suited to the needs of pupilsDevelops and use appropriate instructional materialsProvides individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needsProvides appropriate physical and psychological environmentEvaluates progress of pupils and keep appropriate recordsPlans with parents and staff to meet the health, nutrition, and safety needs of the child and the child's familySelects and requisition books, instructional aids, instructional supplies, and food, following established District and department proceduresWorks cooperatively with Preschool Coordinator, school site personnel, and the community to recruit eligible studentsPlans and coordinate the work of aides, assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on study tripsDevelops activities and services for parents which promote parent participation, cooperation, and education, including home visits, parent conferences, parent meetings, and participation in SAC, SSC, and DACCommunicates regularly with parents by means of parent meetings, home visits, and individual parent conferences; interpret school program to parentsMaintains professional competence through participation in site/District inservice education activities and curriculum development, and self-selected professional growth activitiesDuties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management
