Boston Public Schools seeks Temporary Testers of English Learners

General Description and Goals:
The Boston Public Schools is committed to the academic success of all English Learners (EL) entering grades K2-12. The Newcomers Assessment and Counseling Center (NACC) in the Boston Public Schools is hiring professionals with experience in working with English Learners and assessment protocols. The tester will be primarily responsible for assessing entering ELs. Testers will be provided with training on the assessment instruments and will be paired with a full-time NACC Research and Assessment Specialist.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive and thorough assessment of the four modalities for entering ELs in grades K2-12.
  • Assess enrolling students for native language and numeric literacy.
  • Review the results of assessments and determine an initial ELD level.
  • Use assessment and intake data to identify the best placement options for students.
  • Ensure that all families and students are treated respectfully and on a timely basis.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Director of the Newcomers Assessment and Counseling Center.
Qualifications - Required:
  • Current educator license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in related area.
  • Bilingual and Bi-literate in English and at least one of the target languages.
  • Qualified WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Test Administrator.
  • Three or more years of successful urban teaching experience with English Learners.
  • Strong background knowledge of assessments for ELs in grades K2-12.
  • Experience working with ELs with learning disabilities.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with ability to focus on the overall mission while also attending to details and follow-up activities.
  • Strong communication skills, including oral and written proficiency in English and in a second or third language.
  • Demonstrated use of technology.
  • Knowledge of and experience working in multicultural settings.
  • Flexible work schedule. (possible nights and weekends)
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Bilingual and Bi-literate in English and at least one of the target languages.
  • English as a Second Language license.
  • Strong background knowledge of assessments for ELs in grades K2-12.
  • Current or pending SEI Teacher Endorsement.
  • Experience administering WIDA Assessments (ACCESS, Screener Online, Kindergarten W-APT).

Terms: Overtime Stipend, Part-Time
