Do you have experience implementing balanced literacy best practices in K-3 classrooms? Are you committed to sharing knowledge and collaborating with fellow teachers?

Yes! Then join Children's Literacy Initiative's team of Literacy Coaches in Chicago!

CLI's Literacy Coaches are a team of balanced literacy coaches that provide one-on-one professional development coaching to early elementary (K-3) teachers in Chicago's Public Schools.  While employees of CLI, Literacy Coaches work daily within a public school where they are integral part of their school's literacy strategy. All Literacy Coaches must possess at least 5 years' teaching/coaching experience (literacy) in a K-3, bilingual classroom.  A related Master's degree is desired.  All Literacy Coaches must be able to pass all required clearances and background checks.

Why be a Literacy Consultant?
Grow while developing others: CLI's commitment to professional development doesn't end with the teachers we support. Our Literacy Consultants attend regular sessions on early literacy techniques and effective adult coaching.
Be independent but supported: Benefit from CLI's decades of teacher professional development experience and world class literacy instruction materials.

What qualities make you the perfect fit for this job?
You are an expert: You are well versed in bilingual early literacy instruction and have at least 5 years teaching in a Kindergarten through Grade 3 classroom.

You are a believer: You know that early literacy is essential for later success and that the best way to help students is to support the teachers that have devoted their careers to childhood achievement. You have high expectations for students and are certain that all teachers have the ability to grow and improve.
You have experience teaching ELL students: You have experience working with ELL students and have a toolkit of teaching strategies to help them achieve.

What does CLI do?
It is CLI's mission that all children have the opportunity to become powerful and enthusiastic readers, writer and thinkers. CLI provides partner schools with a combination of in-school teacher coaches, best practice professional development and classroom materials in order to transform literacy instruction and achieve our ultimate goal of students reading on grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

About CLI:
CLI is a mission driven organization that is committed to embracing the diverse array of individuals who comprise our team. We draw inspiration for innovation from the children we serve and from educators, administrators, and the work-at-large. Founded 30 years ago, CLI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides educators with training and coaching in the most effective practices for early literacy instruction for prekindergarten through third grade. CLI's work has been validated by prestigious organizations and has garnered national attention. CLI's proven theory of action shows that when teachers receive the right combination and intensity of training and coaching, they can become exemplary instructors who make an impact in helping children achieve. Our workshops and institutes build teachers' understanding of literacy and the art and science of teaching children how to read and write. By focusing on professional skills that improve over time and are not lost when administrations, buildings, or curricula change, CLI helps create a sustainable, school-wide culture of literacy that introduces students to the joys of reading, writing, and life-long learning.
