  • JOB TITLE: Teacher Librarian
    LOCATION: Sheridan High School
    WORK YEAR: 190 Days
    WORK STATUS: Licensed, Full Time Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    This position is for the 19/20 school year and is probationary unless the selected candidate is hired after the first student day. Per Master Agreement, when a position is filled after the opening of school by an individual who was not employed by the District in the previous school year, that employee will receive a one-year temporary contract.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The teacher librarian is responsible for creating a thriving school library program defined by innovation, critical thinking, and collaboration. As an instructional leader, the teacher librarian will support his or her staff in elevating educational technology tools in alignment with the district's goals. By providing professional development on innovative instructional practices and regularly co-teaching with teachers from all content areas in the building, the teacher librarian will build momentum, competence, and confidence for all staff in implementing transformative technology tools in the classroom.

    The teacher librarian will also support technology management throughout the school. This includes serving on committees where budget, technology acquisition, and device management for the school are discussed. He or she will work closely with the Technology Department to ensure safe and responsible technology use for all students and staff. The teacher librarian will stay current on educational technology trends and bring proven tools, devices, and practices into the building.

    Collaboratively seeking input from all stakeholders, the teacher librarian will also build a relevant, purposeful, and engaging collection (print, non-print, and electronic resources) to support literacy, critical thinking, and innovation throughout the school. Additionally, building an effective partnership with Arapahoe Libraries will help to further strengthen library programing. Community outreach and enrichment, offered by the teacher librarian, will bring increased opportunities to Sheridan students.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership and Professional Development
    • Collaborates with teacher librarians throughout Sheridan Public Schools No. 2 to strengthen library programs districtwide through goal setting, planning, and professional development.
    • Through an inclusive process considerate of all voices, develops and implements a strategic plan for the school library program.
    • Works with school leadership teams to plan for school-based educational technology professional development in alignment with district goals.
    • Leads professional development at school level that demonstrates mastery in both instructional best practices and educational technology incorporation.
    • Stays current on advancements in educational technology through continuous engagement in professional learning.


    Management
    • Oversees school-based software programs and applications associated with instruction and curriculum.
    • May support school website development and social media platforms.
    • May oversee library paraprofessional through scheduling and directing daily job responsibilities.

    Procurement and Budgeting
    • Partners with the Technology Department to evaluate and purchase new technology equipment.
    • Facilitates the development of school based technology budgets that align with the district's educational technology goals.
    • Evaluates online educational technology tools and instructional apps to ensure data privacy, FERPA compliance, and sound instructional practices.
    • Monitors the implementation of technology tools, evaluates their effectiveness in elevating instruction, and makes recommendations for future use.
    • Develop an engaging collection (print, non-print, and electronic resources) and effectively promote student and staff usage of resources.
    • Writes local and national grants to increase funding for the school library program in alignment with district goals.

    Professional Responsibilities
    • Serves as an active member of the principal's leadership team.
    • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with and among the school staff and community.
    • Creates enrichment opportunities for Sheridan students in alignment with their interests and objectives, both academically and personally.
    • Provide leadership for committees, task forces, and other groups involved with educational technology initiatives throughout the school.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and use of District policies, procedures, employee contracts, and legal requirements.
    • Builds relationships with the Sheridan Public Library to expand opportunities for Sheridan students and families.
    • Demonstrates conflict management, problem solving, resource allocation, prioritization, data analysis, collaborative decision making, relationship building, group facilitation, technology capabilities, writing, and speaking skills.
    • Acts consistently in a professional manner.
    • Performs other applicable duties as outlined in the job description and as assigned by the building principal.

    COMPLEXITY OF WORK
    Requires innovative thinking and a collaborative spirit. Must be a champion for the implementation of innovative educational technology practices school wide. Demonstrates high level of understanding in educational technology tools and applications, as well as instructional best practices, literacy skills, and research fundamentals.

    KEY RESULT AREAS AND ATTENDANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Collaborative Instructional Planning
    • Collaboratively plan instruction consistent with the district-approved curriculum for assigned subject area(s)/grade level(s)
    • Use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students.
    • Plan effective use of class time.
    • Responsible for planning and implementing co-taught lessons w/ an emphasis on research skills, literacy, and technology.

    Instructional interaction (collaborative teaching)
    • Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement.
    • Utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners.
    • Modify instruction to meet student needs.
    • Communicate effectively with learners.
    • Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction.

    Library Management
    • Attend to tasks in a manner that maximizes a productive use of library space.
    • Maintain necessary student records.
    • Assist in planning for appropriate use of volunteers/aides as assigned.

    Learning Environment
    • Establish clear expectations for appropriate behavior.
    • Establish consequences for inappropriate behavior.
    • Establish conditions under which students exercise self-discipline, honesty, leadership and citizenship.
    • Create a library environment that is conducive to learning that includes well-defined and clear processes and procedures that will allow students to achieve at high levels.

    Professional Responsibilities

    • Adhere to the code of ethics of the teaching professional of the State of Colorado.

    • Active participation in team level and school wide professional learning community to collect, analyze, plan instruction and evaluate growth of students on a continuous basis
    General
    • Accept and fulfill assigned responsibilities and duties in a prompt and efficient manner.
    • Follow Board of Education policies, building procedures and any other rules, regulations or procedures that may be established by the District or Building administrations.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the building principal in accordance with District Policies.

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL LICENSED POSITIONS:
    Required
    • Three years experience in a teaching OR teacher librarian position
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
    • Hold an endorsement and authorization level in the subject area appropriate for assignment.
    • Pass an approved content exam in subject area.
    • Hold 36 semester hours in assigned subject area.Preferred
    • Master's degree in relevant content area

    GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 20 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    CLEARANCES:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:
    Placement on Licensed Salary Schedule based upon previous teaching experience and highest degree and college credits earned after student teaching was completed. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher Salary Schedule, Salary Placement Policy, and Master Agreement are available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org . Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

    The annual salary for this position will be determined by number of hours scheduled to work each day and number of days scheduled to work each year. The computed annual salary will be spread out in equal payments over 12 months. Sheridan School District employees are paid once a month on the 1st working day of the month that is not a weekend day or holiday.

    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week in the 2019/2020 school year are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits. Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned. Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 8% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA through 6/30/2019. Effective 7/1/2019, employees will be required by state statute to contribute 8.75% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA. The District contributes 20.15% in addition to employee contribution through 6/30/2019 and will contribute 20.4% after 7/1/2019.
